Oct 26 14:40:01 MobileIce cron[28556]: (root) CMD (test -x
/usr/sbin/run-crons && /usr/sbin/run-crons )
Oct 26 15:48:30 MobileIce syslog-ng[4102]: syslog-ng starting up;
version='3.0.4'

That is all in the log from the last crash caused by portage...

I need some hint how and where to look

uname -a
Linux MobileIce 2.6.31-thinkpad #4 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 3 11:25:42 CEST
2009 i686 Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2500 @ 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

x1400, 3gb ram, no kms or dri experimental

Interesting is that 3d gaming is reliable, fast and stable
(ioUrbanTerror for example)

Monitor temperatures with something like gkrellm.

The list may strip attachments.  Put the log on a Web or FTP site and give the
URL.

I would start by verifying memory integrity by running some memory
checker. There are usually some included in any of the livecds. Memory
module errors can be spurious, some apps trigger it, while many others
work fine.

As you are using gentoo, you can also check your compiler settings, if
there is a higher processor enabled as what you actually have, it can
also lead to such crashes in some applications. The game is probably
not compiled by you, but downloaded in binary form and thus is likely
compiled with lower settings.

If that does not help, you should probably post the output when
gcc/scp is crashing...
