TM on a MACHas anyone had any luck with this other than having to buy a Windows Disk?

Re: TM on a MACHi Leslie,
No. I tried using a program (forgot the name of it) that would allow M$ products to run on a Mac, but I couldn't get it to work. So far the only solution I know of is to load Windows. -Thom dajaknowles wrote: > > Has anyone had any luck with this other than having to buy a Windows Disk? > > Thanks, > Leslie Knowles > T170 Secretary > LRAFB, Jacksonville, AR > |

Re: TM on a MACLeslie,
Are you saying you just have the Windows XP OS disk, or you have a computer with Windows XP? If you have the XP OS disk, once installed, you might still be able to just update it from the web to SP2 for Windows XP if Microsoft is still allowing that update. What the heck is Windows 7? I know after XP came out it has been called Windows Mohave and Windows Vista, never heard of Windows 7? Re: TM on a MACLeslie,
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my TM under Wine, but I'm having problems applying the upgrade (4.01a). I'm using the latest development version of Wine (1.1.13), so I think that's the problem. I'll try again after I downgrade back to 1.1.10. If you have a Windows XP disk, you may want to try installing it under VirtualBox ( http://www.virtualbox.org/ ) I've installed TM2008 under VirtualBox on an Ubuntu machine and it works just fine. (No DotNet hang problem like under Wine either.) --- In TMTUG@..., "dajaknowles" <dajaknowles@...> wrote: > > I do have a Windows XP disk, but with bootcamp, it specifically states you cannot use > anything prior to SP2, no upgrade-has to be with the install. > > Windows 7 is the newest version in Beta stage. > > Leslie > |

Re: TM on a MACI got TM2008 reinstalled under Wine. The install didn't go as
smoothly as I remember doing it initially, I think the uninstall wasn't as clean as is should have been. I'd be interested if you have success using Wine on a Mac. The problem with an old version of XP w/o the updates is you don't get all those security patches. Windows programs under Wine aren't immune to malware, but I think you're a little more protected inside of the host OS. That could be wishful thinking on my part though. The bottom of the FAQ at http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ talks about this a bit. It also mentions running Wine on a Mac. Here's a link to Wine on a Mac: http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX --- In TMTUG@..., "Tim Williams" <tjandacw@...> wrote: > > Leslie, > > I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my TM under Wine, but I'm having > problems applying the upgrade (4.01a). Re: TM on a MACI'm running Parallels with WinXP under Leopard. Still using Troopmaster ME. It all installed
and works fine. I still use parallels for four old windows programs. Wish there was a native Mac version through. Richard Hix ASM Troop 387 Roadrunner District |

No offense man, but you really need to hit your Troop Committee up to pay the money to update that software...geez...it's well worth it. Re: TM on a MACDoesn't this still need a WinXP disk? I still think she should try and
get Wine running on a Mac. I've had a few issues (see earlier post about SMTP problems,) but for the most part it works fine for me on a Linux/Ubuntu machine. --- In TMTUG@..., "lioncub1956" <rbhix@...> wrote: > > I'm running Parallels with WinXP under Leopard. Re: TM on a MACYep, I still need a WinXP disk. I'm running Boot Camp and the Beta
Version of Windows and everything works fine, but this is a temporary solution. I do have a pre SP2 WinXP that I can use if I buy Parallels (another cost). I can't ask the committee to pay for it because the Mac is an add on since we bought TM totally of my own doing. I wasn't aware of the extra $$$$ you have to throw at it to make the switch. I know just enough to be dangerous regarding installing Wine or any of those other open source programs. I'm willing to learn if anyone is willing to teach me. Re: TM on a MACLeslie,
I really think you should give Wine a try. It's free, you don't need a Windows install disk, and if it doesn't work out on a Mac, you can just uninstall it and you're no worse off. I don't know how much more I can help that isn't in the FAQ, but I can try. I don't know anything about Macs though. In an earlier post on this thread I posted a few links about Wine. Here are a few more: # Comments on TM2004 on an older version of Wine (0.9.51). Lots of Wine bugs have been fixed since then. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7757&iTestingId=14655 # Latest AppDB comments on current TM20209, Wine. Re: TM on a MACYES, I use Parallels on my Mac, which allows me to use it concurrently with mac applications and windows applications (like Troopmaster). Side by Side. I can even drag and drop files between Windows and Mac. http://www.parallels.com/ Parallels is not free, therefore you could do the same thing with Virtual Box from Sun Microsystems, which IS free. http://www.virtualbox.org/ Windows, however, is not free. The way this works, you have a Mac, running Mac OSX (Leopard or Snow Leopard) You install Parallels, or Virtual Box or VMWare Fusion. Again: Parallels and Fusion are not free, about $80 Virtual Box is Free These three install like any other mac application. Once installed, you start them up and build a virtual Windows image. You must have a Windows installation CD/image and the appropriate Windows license key. After you install Windows and install all the updates and patches, you install Troopmaster. Windows "runs" side by side with your other mac application. Each virtualization product names it differently, on Parallels, you use "Concurrent" mode. This means mac apps and win apps can be viewed and used at the same time. I've done this for over two years, not a single glitch or issue. I used this solution solely because I needed it for Troopmaster. But since I have a few other favorite Windows only applications that I run as well, it's nice to have "both worlds". I think Parallels and Fusion are pretty much equivalent. I have tried Fusion for 30 days and saw no reason to switch from Parallels. I also tried Virtual Box and it worked. Again, since I had already invested the $80 for parallels, I didn't switch to free Virtual Box. Finally, you also need AT LEAST 20GB of free hard space for the Virtualization software application and the Windows image. The more you use it, just like on any Windows system, the larger it gets with patches, bloatware, etc. I would allocate 32GB of space. The nice thing about virtual images, you can clone them as backups. It's really just a single BIG file on your hard drive. Then if you install patches or get a virus, you just delete the image and use your backup image. I make a backup image right before I install any updates or patches from Windows Update. If you do this, make sure your virtual images (Windows) is shutdown when you do your backups of your mac. The down side, you need another ~30GB for each back up image. I store my backup images on an external USB hard drive. If you have space, you can keep at least one backup image on your primary drive. Good luck and Good Scouting! --- In TMTUG@..., "m_and_them" <mmatheidas@...> wrote: > > Has anyone gotten TM 2009 to run on an Intel Mac without using Bootcamp and Windows? > > > > --- In TMTUG@..., "Tim Williams" <tjandacw@> wrote: > > > > I'll email you directly and we can work from there. > > > > --- In TMTUG@..., "dajaknowles" <dajaknowles@> wrote: > > > > > > I read through the FAQ, I have an Intel Mac, so does that mean I can't > > > use the Wine, but need to try the Darwine? > > > > > > > > > Thanks > > > > > > Leslie Knowles > > > > > > |
