As far as I know, this feature won't be implemented very soon. Have a
soon, either. Till xmas is impossible I think. Speed Dreams isn't

Is there a listing of robots that are freely available somewhere on
the on the web? So far, I've found the following robot tutorials:

http://www.berniw.org/torcs/robot/robot.html
http://www.wdbee.gotdns.org:8086/
http://sites.google.com/site/torcscreations/drivers

and I found http://usuarios.lycos.es/f1torcs/ though from what I can
tell, it allows you to create cars.. which might be useful, but I'm
looking for robots and their code.

I'd really like a listing of the features, i.e. what is coded into
them, and in what robot that specific set of code is from.

Are there planned features that haven't been implemented? I noticed in
some online videos that universities have participated, they are
generally open in sharing, is there a listing of what universities
participated in which event, and contact information would be helpful.

I'm looking into simulating my own autonomous car before building my
own physical implementation.

Best Regards.

For the record "Best" Video Rendering Mode hasnt worked since the Days of Ubuntu Hardy(6.xx) and still doesnt to this day...

The problem is not GLX in the drivers, its the GLUT rendering mode, its code has not been fixed since 'TORCS' was created(from ORCS).

To fix it, you would have to ask the Dev. to fix the rendering mode, to render the texturemapping Correctly on OpenGL =>2.x.

Otherwise, it will never be fixed. I should say the Devs. are too busy focused on including Networking Capability in Torcs

(they should just use the BSD tcp.so and just have it open a TCP-port and broadcast to the network. then just have the client's listen for the broadcasts or specify a ip:port. the TCP/IP stack is already setup to handle this type of framework... and as far as how to handle client/client races... just have the secondary client connect, have the hosting server ask the client the car /car.xml. if it exists ask if the crc is the same of the files in the folder, else have it send in plain-text a copy of the xml. if a texture has been changed, have it transfer the file using tftp built into the client, and store the car.xml/textures in a temp folder.)

if you want better rendering and quality, take a look at the source yourself and see if you can fix it... if i knew /c/c++/glut i would fix it myself... but its not my area of experience...
(I'm not sure I have understood everithing):
for Google, you may use the models in any way, but you have to make sure
there is no such bad thing, you may modify and use anywhere the models.

Hi,
I think that those images are really amazing, I wouldn't distinguish
most of them from a real photo.
Just a small suggestion: looking at

http://www.ignorancia.org/uploads/torcs2pov/wips/alpine-2-10.jpg

you can see those low-poly lines, and they aren't very realistic:
I suggest you try adding the following line into the xml file, at the
definition of each segment:

<attnum name="profil steps" val="45"/>

That defines the number of poligons; it won't slow down so much trackgen
or the final render.

Best regards

> Hi All:
>
> Years ago, when I found TORCS, I was looking for an open source
> racing game which will let me export the tracks and cars to POV-Ray, so
> I could render some realistic road scenes. TORCS looked like a very
> good candidate, and indeed it was possible to export the geometry to
> POV-Ray via Blender, but I didn't find any automatic way to get a
> spline for the track path (so that I could place the cars and camera).
>
> I abandoned the project and started to get addicted to race with
> TORCS...
>
> But recently I figured out a way to get the track spline into
> POV-Ray, via Wings3D. The method is bit convoluted, and I still have
> some problems, but the results are starting to look good:
>
>   http://www.ignorancia.org/en/index.php?page=torcs2pov
>
> The page is still blank, it contains just the images... I will put
> there a little tutorial about the process, ASAP. Comments are welcome,
> and the TORCS Team are free to use any of these images for any purpose.
>
>   Regards,
>

Hello,
I've found that when s->currentTime reaches 1.0, human driver (whichever
its car is) sets accel to 0.0, just to gradually reapply it in the
following 5 timesteps. This happens in all gears, with all tracks. And I
think it's not very realistic... I've found in human.cpp the following
lines:

    if (s->currentTime > 1.0) {
        // thanks Christos for the following: gradual accel/brake
changes for on/off controls.
        const tdble inc_rate = 0.2f;

        if (cmd[CMD_BRAKE].type == GFCTRL_TYPE_JOY_BUT ||
            cmd[CMD_BRAKE].type == GFCTRL_TYPE_MOUSE_BUT ||
            cmd[CMD_BRAKE].type == GFCTRL_TYPE_KEYBOARD ||
            cmd[CMD_BRAKE].type == GFCTRL_TYPE_SKEYBOARD)
        {
            tdble d_brake = car->_brakeCmd - HCtx[idx]->pbrake;
            if (fabs(d_brake) > inc_rate && car->_brakeCmd >
                car->_accelCmd = MIN(car->_accelCmd, HCtx[idx]->paccel +
inc_rate*d_accel/fabs(d_accel));
            }
            HCtx[idx]->paccel = car->_accelCmd;
        }
    }

and, setting inc_rate at line 3 to 1.0f, the bug doesn't seem to happen
anymore. The problem is that I suppose line 3 is important for other
things, so my remedy must be changed into something else.

The problem disappears also commenting lines 17 to 27, but, as for the
previous stuff, I think those lines are useful for something.

So, what would it possible to do?

Cheers,
Ocirne.

P.S.: I'm not sure whether it has been made intentionally or not. If
that's the case, and it's useful for something, sorry for all the spam
above.

>
>
>
>
>
Comments are welcome,
> and the TORCS Team are free to use any of these images for any purpose.
> cause some models to turn transparent and not display properly. This
> applies to both terrain and the cars themselves. Here are some links
> to screenshots I just took, I got these with the binary distribution
> of TORCS as offered in the website as well as with the one found in
> the Fedora repositories.

I have had this problem with every version of both TORCS and Linux
that I have used over the past 5 or so years, since first trying TORCS.
Not all tracks are this way but a lot of them, some like the very long
track "spring" something? especially. This is the track I always check
first on a new installation.

the odd thing is the last installation of Linux and TORCS was when I
installed Ubuntu 9.04 and right out of the box, I am sure I tried this
track, noticed that it was not broken in the way you described, so
excitedly I went and made my usual settings, and the track was broken.
I did try to return to the default, I tried uninstalling and
reinstalling but nothing corrected this problem and I ended up
wondering if I was mistaken to begin with. I have virtually given up on
TORCS for this reason and because it seems the developers are now more
interested in doing windblows versions.

At
this point I'm not sure what the problem might be, I have these
problems on a system with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, Linux driver
1.80.60, with and without AA/AF (the effect is the same, the
screenshots have AA, I believe). TORCS is using the best video mode,
maximum texture size of 4096 and texture compression is disabled, are
these problems due to driver/NVIDIA GL library? Is there something I
could do to correct these?

Hello Albert,

> Is it true in general that copying a driver directory to
> /usr/share/torcs/drivers is enough? Same for cars and tracks?

I think it's not enough, you also need to copy the driver's library to
/usr/lib/torcs (also, check if in /usr/lib you find a folder named
torcs, because I'm not sure about the location of default folders for
package install).

> How can I duplicate a driver? For example, create a new set of damned
> drivers out of the current ones by copying/editing the xml files?

I think you have to download the whole torcs sources and compile them;
to copy an existing robot (but in sources you'll already find berniw
two), copy sources from the existing robot, modify them (you'll have to
modify the robot's name into the sources and into the xml file, see
www.berniw.org, torcs section, robot tutorial sub-section, chapter one);
after that, you have to compile the new robot, after setting up some
environment variables: copy the following lines at the end of .bashrc
file in your home directory

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=the path where is located torcs folder with robot
libraries, default is /usr/local/lib
export TORCS_BASE=the folder where torcs sources are located (if it's on
your Desktop, it should be /home/name/Desktop/torcs-1.3.1)
export MAKE_DEFAULT=${TORCS_BASE}/Make-default.mk

To compile the new robot, open a shell into your robot's sources
directory (F4) and run "make" and "make install" commands.

Bye,

Hi,

I have installed torcs on ubuntu 9.04 and added the rally cars by copying the content of the cars/ dir in:

TORCS-1.3.1-data-cars-*.tgz

to /usr/share/games/torcs/cars/

I only see 6 "Damned" robots for these cars but I remember having had at least 6 more robots for them.
Can anybody tell me where to download these extra robots from?

Cheers
