Yeah, I kind of would; my library consists of 1,150 distinct titles
(more than a few representing multi-volume sets) and there are quite a
few "The's" in there and, mostly, the-something-or-other doesn't make a
lot of sense when you're searching for a title. You know, think
old-fashioned index cards down at the library.

I was perfectly happy with the way Tellico handled names and titles in
versions 1.x; everything made sense, looked "proper," and all was right
with the world. I'm thinking about the way I was taught to order names
and titles and subjects in school (hey, about 50 years ago, but there
your are). Seemed like a good thing then, still does, methinks.

[Tellico-users] Cam window on every search ?

Hi,

Compiled tellico 2.1 with webcam support. When try to search any movie it's opening webcam video,
this isn't normal. It must happen just when searching for ISBN number and just if you want to scan
with cam. This way, it's annoying for me..

[Tellico-users] sorting and formatting

Hey,

So with the sorting and formatting needing some work in the next release, I
thought I'd ask about best behavior.

Leaving aside bugs, in Tellico 1.3, title columns were sorting according to
typical english sorting, with the articles like "the" ignored. And it sorted
like that whether or not the auto-formatting was turned on.

Tellico 2.0 had broken formatting, and when I fixed it for 2.1, the sorting
for titles worked as before, but the sorting for names didn't follow the
formatting rules.

What makes it a little tricky is that some data sources provide names with
family name first. So it gets entered that way, whether or not auto-
formatting is turned on.

So my questions are:
1) Would you expect the title sorting to ignore articles like "the" even
when auto-formatting is turned off?
2) After fixing the name formatting, the sorting will follow whether or not
auto-formatting is on, is that what you would expect? Or should it match the
title sorting?
3) Does everything work as you expect it to for other languages?

My inclination is to make the sorting match what is displayed. That is, if

Ah, ok, thanks for the explanation, I follow you now. Tellico 2.0 had broken
formatting, so I fixed that and failed to notice that the sorting no longer
worked. I'll get on that.

Right, that is how you change the sort order. I just can't reproduce the
crash, so it's tough for me to fix.

Can you generate a backtrace? You need to compille Tellico with -
DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=debug in the cmake line. Then run

gdb `which tellico`

After Tellico crashes, at the gdb prompt, type backtrace and email it. That
should tell me the file and line where the problem is.

Hi,

As noted, Tellico 2.1 does not sort author names properly; i.e., the
list is displayed sorted on whatever appears in the Author field (first
initial last or last, first initial). Over the years, authors have been
entered manually and from internet searches so they can be both ways.

The Title column is displayed in what appears to be random order; i.e.,
the first author listed is A. M. Pettis the first title listed is /Night
Passage/, written by Robert B. Parker, followed by /Cromwellian
Settlement of Ireland, The/ written by John P. Prendergast. Neither of
those makes any sense whatsoever to me.

If I click the title bar of the book title column a couple of times,
Tellico crashes (seems to me that that used to be the way to change the
sort order).

Installed software and version

kdebase-4.2.4-i486-1
exempi-2.1.1-i486-1_SBo
yaz-3.0.49-i486-1
Qt-4

The distribution is Slackware 13.0 and all the system libraries are
up-to-date as far as I know. Tellico is built with a "Slackbuild" and
the build process completes with no errors or warnings.

If there's something I can turn on (or rebuild and install with
debugging turned on), let me know the command line to build with and
I'll be happy to do what I can.

Can you please provide details? I tried to reproduce this from the
description you give and I can't get Tellico to crash and sorting works
fine.

Details like:
KDE version, Qt version, type of collection, type of field you're sorting
with, whether you have auto-formatting turned on, and anything else you can
think of that might be relevant.

Trust me, I don't write software to intentionally forget settings. Yours is
the first email that I've received that mentioned any problem with saving
Amazon settings. Would you please provide details...

Tellico 2.0 saved the amazon key using kwallet, which had the inconvenience
of needing to login to the wallet every time Tellico needed to do an amazon
search. So, for Tellico 2.1, I changed it to save in the normal config file,
except if it exists in the wallet, it will copy it over. It does check the
wallet if it doesn't find it in the config file.

Now, could you give me specific steps to reproduce whatever problem it is
you're seeing?

Got it, built it.

It's forgotten how to sort, both author names (they're on first name)
and titles -- and clicking the title bar to try to get it do sort in
alphanumeric order crashes Tellico.

Minor annoyance, the damned thing forgets all that Amazon.com stuff --
can't that be stored somewhere that does not get overwritten?

Hmm, looks like a different crashing problem than what Mehmet reported.
Those backtraces don't have anything that points me to the problem, so if
you could compile with debug mode and let me know what that shows, I'd
appreciate it.

Thanks. I can't reproduce it, but from the error, it looks like it may be
for a table field that doesn't have the number of columns set? The assert
may be failing, if you compiled in debug mode, that the assert causes a
crash, I think...

Can you edit that table field and add a columns property?

Or remove line 284 in tellico-2.1/src/translators/tellicoxmlexporter.cpp and
let me know if that works? Meanwhile, I can work around it, I guess. I'm
trying to decide if this is serious enough to warrant a quick release of
2.1.1.

Tellico uses lib4vl for the conversion process (from webcam to RGB). May be
your version of libv4l is too old?

The update does a search by Artist, and there are so many results that match
War that the one you want doesn't actually show up in the first 25 results.
That updater should probably be a bit smarter and look for title, too.

Tellico has to be compiled with CDDB support. It's in the File->Import->From
Audio CD.

During an update by title, if the amazon search returns multiple results,
none of which have a match score high enough to determine which one is the
correct one to update, then that dialog pops up to allow you to choose. If
none of those are what you are updating, then it looks like Amazon can't
tell.

Just trying to figure out what Amazon considers a value ItemID/UPC/EAN. It
should be eiterh 12 or 13 digits, but some of the 10-digit values work. Very
confusing...

For whatever reason, Amazon thinks the UPC is 1005821392 (without the last
digit). Searching amazon.de with that value gives a successful result.

However, from my reading, a UPC value in the US should probably 12 digits.
An EAN value in Europe should be 13 digits. None of the formats I looked at
have 11 digits, like the value you had. Can you verify your UPC value?
