Very nice work Stefano. I actually murdered this piece with a class I'm taking last Friday - it might have benefitted them to have been able to explore the piece with your work...

Here is my contribution to the Csound-minimalism library:

It's great! I just couldn't find the STOP button. Is there any?
(Perhaps not, by deep motivations/relations to the spirit of this
music :-)
And a suggestion: As the table text files (01.txt ...) are rather
small, would it not be better to include them in the .csd? Then it's
just one file.
We are just planning to extend the QuteCsound Examples Menu by
classical examples, or adaptions of some old stuff. Would you mind if
we include it? If you like, a "native" QuteCsound version would be the
best. But if not, we can include it as FLTK too.

Yes quite nice. I'm not sure if porting it to QuteCsound widgets is a
good idea right now, as there is no buttonbank widget, and hti relies
heavily on it... But on the good side, the threading fixes in svn can
run it multiple times without issue, so hopefully QuteCsound has
become FLTK friendly. Testing is greatly appreciated. Remember to
enable FLTK and try to run them in an external shell or directly
within QuteCsound.

Cheers,
Andrés

Hello Stefano,

Thanks for posting this! This has always been one of my favorite pieces.
And it's fun to play and will be fun to learn from. The only suggestion
I can think of right now would be to include an option to make it run
autonomously.

Thanks again,
.mmb

Hello, thanks everybody for the kind words!
To reply to the questions:

There is no general stop button for all players toghether but you can stop
them individually (q to o buttons). I've not included this feature tho give
the
feel of single players. I've included an "all on" button to try to play in
unison (is desired in the performing note of the piece).

External ftable txt files are easier to edit/manage, in this way you can
change the patterns (maybe using this csd with the Metallica guitar riffs
in
the txts eh eh eh minimalism metal...)  without modifying too much the csd
file
(pattern length are calculated and stored automatically by instrument 1 to
53).

It would be an honour be included in the examples! Unfortunately I don't
use
Qutecsound at all since I still like classic csound (the thruth is that I'm
a
disaster at compiling software on my Linux machine). So everybody must feel
free to use and modify it.

I think that running the piece automatically it's not so difficult, the
only
constraint is to keep all the players in the range of 3 - 4 phrases
(recomended
in the performing note of the piece). Some random generators and values
check
would do the work, i suppose...

To Ian, very nice work, I constanly use your amazing examples as reference!

Again, thank you

Stefano

Greetings,

I still have a MIDI file I made of "In C" back in my MIDI years.
Voyetra's Sequencer Plus Gold had realtime track mute/solo that included
group assignments (that could be changed in realtime), it was easy for
one person to control the entries & exits. Great fun.

IIRC I used the score that was published on the album cover.

Terry Riley has some interesting comments re: In C in the book Soundpieces2.

Best,

dp
