Testing DVD MenusI used to use ogle to test menu behaviours on a dvdauthor-created
directory structure before burning it to a DVD. Gentoo had a package for this, but it appears Debian does not. Is ogle dead? I had a hunt around for alternatives, and it looks like vlc does a creditable job of handling the simple menus I've thrown at it so far. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. I don't know about ogle, but xine can display DVD menus. -- Eduardo M KALINOWSKI eduardo@... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. I think vlc is pretty nice and use it instead of xine these days. But I haven't created complex menus for either in a long time. I've always supposed that software players are more generous in what they accept than standalone hardware, but I don't keep any test cases. -Bill -- Sattre Press Curiosities of the Sky http://sattre-press.com/ by Garrett Serviss info@... http://sattre-press.com/csky.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. So I always use xine - it is fast configurable and not buggy. > I had a hunt around for alternatives, and it looks like vlc does a > creditable job of handling the simple menus I've thrown at it so far. Yes, vlc is a good program. But I have found that some dvd menu buttons get other colors as I have defined with dvdauthor/dvdwizard. I don't no why. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises > looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest > innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. But if I hit a problem with the software player, I figure it saves me wasting a DVD. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. I previously had trouble with xine--whenever I tried it with downloaded media files, it usually complained it couldn't find the right demuxer or codec. Possibly I was running distro-specific versions which were crippled for legal reasons? Anyway, I just tried it with the same menus I previously tested with vlc, and yes, it seems to handle them fine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community. I checked the debian repository and some more infos about ogle. It seems it is not more under development since 2006. But its gui looks some years older. And it have some bugs. So it will be the best to forget ogle and use xine, totem, gxine or vlc.
