Text Mate global search function

I find it completely unbelievable that the text mate global search function has to be the worst I've seen in any editor.    It completely locks up the entire computer if you are searching a large app, takes forever to find results, gives you no indication that it's even searching, and gives you no indication that the search is completed if it doesn't find any results.    The global search is one of the most important pieces of any editor.   Is there any good TextMate plugins to actually  make the global search function usable?
