Hi Princo,

What is the proposed size of your outdoor ship? I think you will need a proper shape (google series58 generator), a slenderness ratio of at least 4 to 5, and you will need ballonets. Week PU films might forgive a volume change of the lifting gas due to a change of ambient temperature and pressure, but they can't maintain the shape and can't withstand bending moments in gusts or at higher speed.

requirements. This methodology has appeared as a Technical Note, in
AIAA's Journal of Aircraft, Vol. 45, No. 6, Nov-Dec 2008. Soft copy of
this article can be downloaded from the publications list on my
website i.e., http://www.aero.iitb.ac.in/~rkpant. The methodology is
available with me as a code in FORTRAN.

Similar methodologies for conceptual design of remotely controlled
airships and aerostats are also available with us on MS-EXCEL
spreadsheets.

Due to this, we scheduled a return visit for July 2-6 (ie, July 4 weekend) on the spot and have already sold a good portion of *those* flights. It may well be that we will be sold out for that trip before it even begins.

On this visit, we did a fantastic 3 hour trip up the 405 past LAX and downtown LA to the Hollywood sign, UCLA, Sunset Blvd., Hollywood Bowl, Universal City, and Hollywood Hills and did a 15 minute demo at/for the Burbank airport (we have considered it as a future operating location more convenient for the Hollywood/Malibu crowd). There were so many famous sights to see, I thought the passengers were going to pop with delight.

For the 4th, we plan a special fireworks viewing flight (8-10pm).

Both the away and home teams really kicked butt to handle the crowds, and I don't think we have seen so many happy people in one week!

Yes. I received numerous notifications about this; it seems that there were continual problems with the envelope. While not specific, they seemed to be centered around the material being inadequate for tropic humidity. Some other difficulties as well.
There was an ongoing political and economic controversy as well involving the true cost of fielding this craft; with an eventual cost of some $9 Million (US) mentioned. There was some hint that the company that sold the airship to Trinidad might not have been completely truthful, or perhaps more likely, not aware of, the entire cost of the project.

Success and failure

Hi folks,
The track record for the Aeros 40B is good for a laugh if you like
airship disaster stories. One of the Trinidad pilots test flew the
very first Aeros in Shanghai. This was a smaller ship than the 40B and
the test pilot took one look at it and asked for 5000 usd in advance,
which he got. After takeoff the nintendo side stick rudder control
failed and no backup system was fitted, so he had no choice in the
offshore wind but to ditch the ship in a banana plantation. He and his
Chinese co pilot were unhurt.
Lots of listers know the history of Aeros in the US, with one ship
parked on a restaurant roof after an attempted windy landing at
Oakland.
I dont have enough time to describe everything that went went wrong
in Trinidad with the Aeros 40B. Apart from the effects of the salt air
on the electronics it was too slow to handle even light trade winds
and could not lift even one camera and operator with enough fuel to
make a sensible mission possible. That ship is still for sale by AMS
as removing it from Trinidad was part of the contract for the new
Skyship 600L.
I am surprised that any high tech camera company would go anywhere
near Aeros after they lost a Wescam in the Atlantic after one of their
drivers discovered that lack of vectored thrust to carry out a
vertical approach makes landings less safe when you dont know exactly
where your own mast is on a foggy day.
China was a joke and there is an ongoing legal case even involving an
FAA LTA examiner as expert witness that the ship could not lift the
required payload etc. It appear that ship has also been removed and
sent to Thailand although an extra 10m section has been spliced in to
add to the lift. I hope they manage to knot the control wires and
valve cables correctly or there will be another Far Eastern fiasco.

assume. Now the question is, what track record does the
Skydragon have? If my memory isn't completely wrong there were some
failed missions with this airship but I don't remember
which and why. If the list could fill me in that would be very
helpfull. Wasn't the Aeros 40 Skydragon also in Trinidad ?

While I cannot count as seriously interested in buying the TC, I can say that the 138 appears to be a good airship with good performance (high useful lift, good control, etc), and I have known Ray Olma for a few years recently by phone and e-mail, having first met him at the Weeksville '92 conference. As an example their pilots and operating manuals are very plainly and clearly written, which gave me a good impression of the entire operation. The unfortunate and non-repeating accident of the Bigfoot version (due to night sign weaknesses) came at a bad time but should not count against the ship. Very best wishes to whoever can buy the TC, if they need any help let us know!

Yes. I have been making repeated comments for several months on Naval centric blogs; in an effort to get airships back into general acceptance. Well Steve, naturally I've not seen your work since you haven't shown us anything yet other than bizarre notions. I agree it would be good to have a full force airship industry out there but don't see how your website promotes that. Rather, I see it as your personal dream world.

Your rhetoric about being unselfish and having an open attitude also is not believable, since you appear to be hiding things and seeking reward to just see whatever you have. I suspect nothing of engineering worth, since you avoided answering my question on this. Your suggestion to pay for something without knowing what you have indicates a scam.

Yes, we want a worldwide airship industry, but this will only come through purposeful engineering work and I welcome input on this. If you are not able to contribute in this way then I would suggest that you desist from wasting Airshipworld members time with unreal notions. Otherwise, Andreas' suggestion to discard any further messages from you appears to be the right thing to do.

Everything to do with lighter than air flight has been thought of multiple
times and normally patented a hundred years ago or more.

If you think you have invented something new that everyone else has
missed, you are wrong and also your idea won't work, else someone else
would have been using it for decades.

Don't waste your time Jonathan. It appears that Steve either is not willing to show us his designs or doesn't really have anything to show other than fanciful artwork.
Better to explore the Airshipworld blog and follow some of the more serious proposals there.

you have never delivered something.
Get a real website and not a MySpace page, patent your ideas and build
something that's the way to prove something.
Please stop posting claims that are without any substance to this
