May I suggest that we change the key combination for Option 1 and 2 into

AltGr-4 (Right Alt-4)

We can also use AltGr to map in other characters such as the ñ (AltGr-n) and Ñ (AltGr-Shift-n).

Good Morning!

I just want to propose to the group that we file a proposal to
change the Dollar Sign that is currently included as default for "en-PH"
of Ubuntu, with the Peso sign which have been available since Unicode v3.2.

There are two ways we can go with this.

   Option #1:
Shift+4 will be replaced with the real ₱ sign.
Add CTRL+Shift+4 which will represent the $ sign.

   Option #2:
   Shift+4 will stay as-is, the $ sign.
Add CTRL+Shift+4 as the real ₱ sign.

That's a good idea!

Okay, so everyone in agreement with the key combination?  Or any other suggestions and opinions?

₱ - AltGr+4 (Right Alt+4)
Ñ - AltGr+Shift+N (Right Alt+Shift+N)
ñ - AltGr+n (Right Alt+n)

To ease the adoption of these characters into a modern Filipino keyboard, I also made this layout for Windows users. It includes the source file in case you want to modify it or simply don't trust my binaries. (Please rename the PNG file into ZIP)

₱ (peso sign): AltGr-4
¢ (centavo): AltGr-Shift-4

ñ : AltGr-N
Ñ : AltGr-Shift-N

There is a richer set of characters that we can access via AltGr if we want to include them there. I'm thinking of including dead key characters so that we can easily type in letters with orthographic symbols, such as circumflex ( ˆ ), accute accent ( ´ ), and grave accent ( ` ). This is useful when writing in Lumang Balarila or for highlighting the correct pronunciation of Filipino words.

Best regards,

Renren
