Third Edition of: Inkscape: Guide to a Vector Drawing Program

Hi,

        I am pleased to announce that the 3rd edition of my book "Inkscape:
Guide to a Vector Drawing Program" is available at:

This edition is also available as a book(!) and as a PDF download. The
PDF version is available as of today at:

The book version is scheduled to be available November 6th. It can be

or from many on-line bookstores including some based in the US, Europe,
and Japan. Note that the book version is printed in black and white.* A
color addendum is available as a free PDF download from the book's
website.

        The new 3rd edition covers all the new features in Inkscape version
0.47 including the updated Pen and Pencil tools, the new Eraser Tool,
and the new Snap Bar. Also covered are all the new extensions and the
new "Preset" filters.

        I would like to thank all the people who have sent me comments and
corrections to previous versions of the book as well as all the Inkscape
developers past and present. I would also like to thank everybody who
has supported the guide through purchasing the PDF version (which helps
to keep my wife off my back!).

Congratulations on this 3rd edition Tav.

It pains me to read:
"The implementation of LPEs has many bugs, especially if removing effects from a path or chaining LPEs. Paths can be left with LPE cruft in their attributes and without a valid SVG path. You can always check objects with the XML Editor  dialog. It may be useful to vacuum the file (File →     Vacuum Defs) to remove unused LPE  definitions. Save work often! "

It pains me because it's true :-(

For the Knot LPE, I fixed it for groups such that the switcher does work.

Thanks for fixing that. I will update the online guide at some point and
also add an online 'errata" for the print versions to cover last minute
changes.

Just ordered the book through Informit. That site promised me a
$12 discount if I answered a survey. I answered the questions, but
then the web page hung up waiting for a response. I went through
the process again and again the web page hung up. Finally I
ordered the book without answering the survey and was able to
get my order through. I did get a discount of about $4.

Go figure.
