Hi!

As previously indicated in the schedule:
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/Tiki4#Schedule

Today is feature freeze. So please sneak in all your remaining things quickly.

Now, we do not yet have clear guidelines on what "feature freeze"
means in our community. Use your judgment. But please check with me if
you are unsure. Let's together precise the guidelines
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/Freeze+and+Slush

In general: no more major new features but it's fine to make template
refinements.

Best regards,

M ;-)

So who can do a new branch (this time name the branch tiki4 and not
tiki4.0). Without a new branch, a freeze is not possible.
(I am not sure I know all the tricks to do a new branch myself)
Thanks

I'm still hoping to get a couple of other little things under the wire
today, so am around and can try and help with branching later or
tomorrow, but i've not done one before so would like to see what's
involved.

Hi!

Making the branch is just running the create branch script I think.
But as we want to change branches/4.0 to branches/4

1- We need to check that the script will still work. Nyloth?

Also,

2- We need to decide if we make a branch now or later.

We __can__ make a freeze but it's not cool for people that need a
trunk. But it would be less work for merges.

Everyone: please indicate your preference and arguments here:
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/How+to+release#To_branch_or_not_to_branch

Thanks!

Hi all

Well, that weekend was quite a frenzy - sort of like a non-
geographical TikiFest!

As far as i know, that's all the stuff i wanted (or was supposed to)
get into 4.0 committed into trunk - mostly (there's always more!).

The things i didn't manage to get in were:

* Add content templates to the wiki toolbar - not a big job. I'll do
it if others want it in this version but really it needs changing so
it can do wysiwyg ones properly too, and that should be a 4.1 thing.

* Dialog tools and plugin form should pre-fill themselves from the
text selected in the textarea - fairly trivial and would be lovely!
(might have a quick go at this one if no one's looking ;)

* Some refactoring of the treetable object (can wait)

* Perms copy tool - LPH tells me the back end code for selecting
objects is in such a state it wasn't possible for 4.0, and unlikely
before 5.0, but i would have thought we could get categories and pages
working - hopefully for 4.1?

---------------------------------------------------

So assuming that the list above will have to wait for 4.n, i am happy
now to move  into big fixing mode (instead of generating!) so do let
me know by mail/irc/skype or whatever if you think there's something i
can mend (sorry, i don't have time for trackers).

As for when we branch i am ambivalent really - branching means we
don't have to get people to remove stuff checked into trunk because
they didn't know how frozen or not the project is (it's hard to tell,
ay!), but branching early makes more work in back-porting and keeping
the two synchronised, especially if you consider that some of us are
also concerned about proposed and 3.0 too - that's-a-lotta-branches!

So, i'll go with the flow, but if it was me, i think i'd branch
sometime next week (about three weeks before release?)

I think 4.0 is going to be pretty stunning, if we can now make it
reliable enough!

Better get on... :o)

don't consider it as a new feature but a regression bugfix ! it worked
like that before plugin helper...

Let’s continue trunk on git. :)

Has there been discussion on whether to switch to git or not?
The experimental branch was/is running on git, right? As a test?

Hi!

I think we need to branch now. But, the script doesn't work for a
branch named 4.x

Our choices:
1- Call the branch : branches/4.0  (yuk!)

2- Find someone to fix the script now, and use branches/4.x  (we tried
and no one volunteered yet)

3- Use branches/4.x and worry about the merge script later. (risky)

4- Other?

Best regards,

M ;-)

And what about 4

I was ok with 4 (without the x), but several people preferred 4.x  So
we'll go along with that.

Thanks!!

Hi all

I know we don't really "do" freeze, but should new/enhanced features
be going into 4.x at this stage?

Especially if they're not tested (according to the author).

Hi!

There is no black & white answer.

In general, no. But it depends. It's on a case-by-case basis.

Let's refine this:
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/Freeze+and+Slush

Thanks!
