Time to try again.

It's been a long time since I last tried getting my mobile device
talking to GNU/Linux, but I'm giving it another shot.

I'm running Debian unstable.  I plug in my device, and an icon shows
up in my Gnome tray.  Without doing anything special, I can just type
'synce-pls' in a terminal window, and I see what looks like the
contents of my device.

When I right-click the icon, at the top of the pop-up menu is an entry
entitled "WM_tevaugha".  This entry opens into another menu, one of
whose entries is "Explore with Filemanager".

Selecting this, however, I get an error dialog that says that Nautilus
cannot handle synce locations.

The package synce-gvfs is not available in Debian unstable, but I do
have synce-gnomevfs installed.

Although it would be good enough to get synce-gnomevfs working, it
would be even better if I could get synce-gvfs running because I
already have gvfs-fuse running.  It would be ultra cool to be able to
access my device's filesystem just by looking at the FUSE mount under
'$HOME/.gvfs'.

I tried following the wiki instructions to build synce-gvfs, but I ran
into trouble because there is no libgvfscommon0 on my system (even
though gvfs works fine).

Would it be easier to get synce-gnomevfs working, since it is already installed?

Has anyone got synce-gvfs working on debian unstable lately?

It will work fine, it's just not packaged, and is a pain to build
because gvfs completely fails to support external modules. What version
of gvfs does debian unstable run at the moment ?

Haven't tried it with that version, but's it's worth a try. You need the
source to gvfs to build synce-gvfs. Have a look at the README in
synce-gvfs.
