I was wondering how people are training for the swim.  Also, I was wondering if you know of places were doing open water swims is easy in the area.  Thanks.  This is my first time doing the swim.  Look forward to your input.

Hey,

Last year there were over 250 participants so there are probably a lot of people training right now.  Team in Training is a great option if you are looking for help training.  You get expert coaching from myself, and two other coaches, Sue and Tara.  You get 8 training sessions, 3 in a pool, and 5 outdoors in the Hudson.

Training in the Hudson is a good place to train if you do it safely with others.  You should not just go jump in the Hudson if you are not prepared and if you do not have proper safety precautions in place.

Rye Beach is also a great place to train, in some ways safer than the Hudson, but again make sure safety precautions have been taken care of.  Rivers, Sounds, and Oceans are things to have a healthy respect for.

I would be happy to share training tips with you if you have specific questions.  Or are looking for some guidance.

-Matt Price

I never swam more than a mile at a time, and always in a pool, before doing my first hudson swim in 2001 so I was afraid that I wouldn't last for three miles. For some reason, maybe because you are more buoyant due to the salt, or maybe it is the adrenaline, but it wasn't quite as difficult as I had anticipated. Hope these words of encouragement help and god luck with your training. Joining Team in Training I'm sure would be helpful.
