Financial Systems Development Services AG (FIDES) is a joint stock company with
head office in Fribourg, Switzerland. Our mission is to create, manage and
finance sustainable microfinance institutions that are accessible for customers
excluded from the existing banking system. We are collaborating with financial
institutions and initiatives from the civil society in Africa, Eastern Europe
and Asia. Our projects are financed by the Swiss and the German government, the
World Bank as well as private investors. Our actions are based on a sound
understanding of the local environment and of the demand of clients for micro
financial services. FIDES is enabling the establishment of financial
institutions in rural areas through technical and institutional innovations
allowing the establishment of sustainable financial services even in areas
where population density is low. FIDES is certainly one of the most
sophisticated specialists in this area.


FIDES is currently creating five new institutions in Africa, in partnership with
KfW, GTZ, IFC and institutional investors. In order to strengthen its team,
FIDES is looking for a


Senior Technical Assistant (Microfinance Expert)


Sector: Microfinance and Microinsurance


Tasks and responsibilities:

The Senior Technical Assistant will work as an expatriate in one of the FIDES
initiatives in Africa and will be in charge of creating a local microfinance
bank. In this function she/he will work closely with the Director of FIDES as
well as with FIDES teams in other countries of intervention. Under the
responsibility of FIDES' Director, the Senior Technical Assistant will:

-          create and manage a commercial microfinance institution with support
of other FIDES team members and local staff;

-          Set and work towards qualitative and commercial objectives (e.g.
clients, credit/saving portfolios, products);

-          Recruit and supervise local teams and establish a constructive and
motivating working relationship with collaborators under her/his
responsibility, help them reach the team's operational objectives;

-          Ensure the communication with local supervision authorities and
investors as well as with our headquarter in Fribourg;

-          Participate in the further development of the strategy of FIDES in
Africa;

-          Teach in FIDES' training sessions.



Skills and qualification:

-          High level of integrity;

-          Relevant professional experience in the creation and management of at
least one sustainable microfinance bank, experience in microinsurance
appreciated;

-          Entrepreneurial talent and high level of commercial awareness;

-          Experience as team leader;

-          University degree in Finance, Economics, or other task related areas;

-          Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate results to
technicians as well as to investors and a larger audience;

-          Excellent command of English and/or French, good command of the other
language;

-          Good computer skills;

-          Drive and motivation to make a significant contribution to an
organization engaged in development work;

-          Autonomy and ability to work in difficult contexts.



Remuneration: Competitive compensation based on the candidate's profile.
