Transfer from one collection to another?

Before asking my question I want to congratulate the developers of Tellico. It is a great program. Before moving to Linux a couple of months ago I used Bookcollector for cataloging the 800 books of my Rare book collection. I am in the process of re-entering by hand all my entries into Tellico, and I love the flexibity offered by the program in the way I can configure the various fields. Really great

Now on with my question. How can I move one entry from collection1.tc into collection2.tc? (either copy or direct move)

Thanks for your help

Really doing it by hand? Maybe bookcollector has a CSV export that might
give you a workable start for importing into Tellico. I hate to see you redo
all that work! :)

The only real way is to select the one you want to move, then File->Export-
>Zip and make sure the "Export selected entries only" is checked. Then open
your other collection and do File->Import->Tellico data and select the file
you exported.

I could export it into xml but I then don't know what to do with it. Oh well, it's not that bad, I have already transferred by hand 20% of my collection The only real way is to select the one you want to move, then File->Export- >Zip and make sure the "Export selected entries only" is checked. Then open your other collection and do File->Import->Tellico data and select the file you exported. Thanks for the advice, I am not sure I am doing it correctly but it works. Here is what I do for let's say entry#18 which I want to transfer. File->Export->Zip and make sure the "Export selected entries only" is checked. Then save it to entry#18.tc. Then open my other collection and do File->Import->Tellico data and select entry18.tc. After that delete entry#18.tc. I have tried directly as you indicated but I import the whole collection Thanks again Jean-Claude _______________________________________________ tellico-users mailing list tellico-users@forge.novell.com http://forge.novell.com/mailman/listinfo/tellico-users

Do you get a dialog that says replace/append/merge? I'm guessing append is
what you want, and it sounds like you're doing everything correctly.

The file? Right...

Hmm, I just tried and it seemed to work. What version of Tellico? The
entry#18.tc file should be a small file compared to collection1.tc. Could
you verify that? That would tell me if the problem is in the export.

Sorry, I probably did not explain it correctly. If I create an entry18.tc file (very small) and then import it and subsequently delete it I effectively add entry 18 to my collection 2.tc. What I meant was that if I do not create an entry18.tc file I cannot import it. I initially got the  impression that I could import it directly (without creating an intermediary entry18.tc file) but obviously I was wrong. No big deal, the main thing is that I can now export from one collection to another

PS by the way my Tellico version is 1.3.4
