Translating Publishing Open Government Data

(you gave a URI containing www-mit, it is probably a mirror)

You don't have to ask permission. It's rather a notification to a group of  
people that you'd like to start work on a translation.

But typically we don't encourage to translate Working Drafts, because of  
the unstable nature of this type of document, and we don't feature Working  
Drafts in the Translations database. I understand that you see benefit in  
translating this WD, and this is fine.

Thanks a lot for letting us know.
You translation may interest people ; you are welcome to advertize the  
link to it on this list when your work is complete.

That would be good to translate this kind of documents in other
languages. Actually I was quite surprised that the document was
published under restrictive copyright and not creative commons.

Yes, but as Coralie said in a previous message, W3C don't encourage to

Hello Antti

I am the W3C contact person for volunteer and authorized translations.
See the W3C Translations home page for information and available resource:
   http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Translation/

In our translations database we include all recommendations, groupe notes  
and outreach material.

However, we do not include working drafts, such as the one in question in  
this thread, because of the unstable nature of working drafts. We  
encourage translators to work on stable documents. That said, there are  
cases, as it is Daniel Dietrich, when the translation of a WD is valuable  
to a given community. We will not add the translation(s) in the  
Translations database, but the interested parties are welcome to use  
w3c-translators@... to disseminate the information.

Regarding the document license and copyright under which we operate, I  
recommend you read more at

For me it was mentally restrictive because I, as typical internet user,
don't click many links and go deep into the licence documents. I made my
fast probaply errorneus judgement after reading this:

It says "All Rights Reserved", so I made the assumption thet the link
leeds to some typically restrictive copyright notice. Creative Commons
licences are well known and give the immediate idea that this is not
meant to be restricted.

This is a sort of usability issue with copyright notices.

Dear Coralie,

Thanks for this quick replay. We started translating
http://wiki.opendata-network.org/index.php/Publishing_Open_Government_Data_%28W3C%29
and its all most done.

I have to admit that we were not 100% aware about the nature of  
"Working Drafts". Thanks to letting us know. Is there someone who  
could tell me if there is a date envisioned to release a final version  
of this draft and if you think that there will be major changes?
