Translation into rumantschHello,
we are a little group of rumantsch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romansh_language) people. We want to translate some software into rumantsch. We made an xpi of Firefox 3.0 that works quite well. We think about to translate some other software too (like OpenOffice or Thunderbird). But now we have a problem: We don't now exactly how to update a translation to a newer version. Translate only with compare text-files is to complicated, particularly for working in a little group. A friend of a friend made some “magic” with po-files, what works quite well. But I have no idea how he did it. And didn't understand the manuals I found on the internet. But I saw the pootle-server. Is there a public version on the internet where we could also upload and work with the rumantsch-translation? Where someone would make the “update-stuff” and we only could translate? Or what could you recommend us? Thank you for some tips (and excuse my terrible english, I think I should make a course one day...) The most up-to-date documentation to use PO files to translate Mozilla programs is here: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/toolkit/mozilla_l10n_scripts Feel free to ask on the translate-devel mailing list if you have any questions. Asking here will probably also get you answers from people using this approach. You can join the translate-devel mailing list here if you want: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/translate-devel Walter has been building POT files that you can use to update your PO files, and they are usually available here: http://l10n.mozilla.org/pootle/ I can't currently get there to give you a more precise URL, but I'm sure you can find it from there.
