Turning Active Reverse AJAX on and off?

Hello,

I'm using DWR 2.0.5 and am trying to implement the following logic in my
web application: when the certain page is loaded, active reverse AJAX
isn't enabled by default. When a user selects a certain action, it's
enabled via dwr.engine.setActiveRevereseAjax(true), this allows me to
push status updates from the server in real time. After the action is
completed, I'd like to turn active reverse ajax off again to conserve
server resources.

However, call to dwr.engine.setActiveReverseAjax(false) results in the
following error message in Firebug console:

Reverse Ajax poll failed (pollRetries=1): dwr.engine.missingData : No
data received from server
Giving up.

and reverse AJAX request stays up indefinitely after that.

What would be the correct way to turn Active Reverse AJAX off? Or would
I be better off enabling it when the page is loaded and leaving as is?

Regards,
Victor Denisov.
