NetBeans Users:
UML underwent a complete rewrite of the diagram editors for NB 6.5. The
development was more complex than anticipated and resulted in higher bug
counts than expected. UML has not yet reached NB 6.5 beta quality
criteria. We are taking two actions as a result:
1) We plan to focus our efforts on five of the eight diagram types
previously supported: activity, class, sequence, state and use case
diagrams. The three remaining diagrams, collaboration, component, and
deployment, will come after NB 6.5 releases. We chose these five based
on usage results taken during NB 5.5 development.
2) We removed UML from the NB 6.5 installer starting with build
20080730. UML is currently available on the NB 6.5 dev update center
and will continue to be available in the zip format as well. UML will
be posted on the beta update center for at NB 6.5 beta. It will be
moved to the stable update center when it meets the release quality
criteria as soon after NB 6.5 releases as possible.
Decoupling UML from the NB 6.5 installer will allow the development team
to continue to stabilize the UML code without affecting the rest of NB
6.5. We feel this is the best compromise given the current
circumstances.
You can install the 6.5 UML plugin through the Plugin Manager (Tools ->
Plugins). If you prefer to download rather than install via the update
center, you can do so as follows:
1) Install one of the Java versions of NB 6.5.
2) Download the latest UML module from
http://bits.netbeans.org/download/trunk/nightly/latest/zip/moduleclusters
,
e.g. netbeans-trunk-nightly-200808010201-uml.zip.
3) Unzip netbeans-trunk-nightly-200808010201-uml.zip (should be uml5)
to the NB 6.5 installation (or home) directory.
4) Start NB. Verify that UML appears in the New Project wizard, File
-> New Project.
