First of all, I am working
on modifying the English translation to be suitable for the US. If anyone
is interested in this, please contact me. I think it might be helpful to
have a US translation available for eGroupWare.
Secondly, I am working on
tweaking some of the translations for the Addressbook. I have a couple of
questions about the column headers in the main addressbook
view.
1. "own sorting" --
What is this supposed to do? Is it supposed to be a custom sort
field? I feel like it could be labelled more clearly, because I have no
idea what it is for. I looked in the docs but ciould find
nothing.
2. Name / Firstname -
I know that in Europe, the "last name" is referred to as the Name. In US
English, the Name generally refers either to the first name, or to the entire
name. To this end, I changed 'Name' to 'LastName' in the eTemplate lang
file. It looked great in the main Addressbook screen, but when I went to
add a new entry, I see that "Name" refers to the entire name, and a little
pop-up div comes up when you click the "Name" blank, giving you "Prefix", "First
Name", "Middle Name", "Last Name", and "Suffix". Is there any way for the
column heading NOT to share a common name with the data-entry form's "Entire
Name" field? They really are different things, in my mind, and should not
use the same phrase.

Sorry for the delay for answering this.
I think all localizations are interesting and, of course, welcome. For
it to be good enough there has to be some active "monitoring". What I
mean with this is that the current english file are done by developers
themselves, that are mostly German. I'm aware that there are many typos
and other issues with the english files, so I suggest to duplicate the
****egw_en.lang**** files (Watch out, recent change for trunk in the
filenames!!) to egw_en-us.lang, where you should be the maintainer
(while there are more contributors for US).
I have to leave right now, but I hope this info is enough for letting
you doing some work.
Regards.
