Yes, I also kept this in mind when proposing names :-).

How about introducing 7zip? It's much smaller than other ones [1].

Is there a way on Linux to generate a .7z ?

.zip created with 7-Zip are also smaller than current .zip files

but marc refused some time ago, as he has no 7-Zip ...

Good. Currently I generate the releases on my machine anyway since there
is still a delay for anonymous CVS. I'll install p7zip and see what I
can do.

Ah I didn't know that. But the difference seems to be minimal (3%
for phpMyAdmin HEAD with p7zip).

There should be no problem in installing p7zip on sourceforge.
