Dear Sir/ Madam,

I manage to install a Ubuntu Linux, Ver 9.04 Desktop Edition and it is an amazing experience. I am a user switching from Windows to Linux. The new OS is very amazing to me.

But I have a problem, I have a HSDPA mobile modem. When I plug in to the computer there is a pop menu for new mobile device connection. But unfortunately my country (Brunei) and internet service provider (DSTCom) name is not in the list. So I cant install my HSDPA mobile modem. I want to continue to use the new OS. Could somebody to help me to fix this problem?

Thank you

Best regards

Joel

Do a right click on the network-manager-applet icon and edit
connections. There is a tab Mobile Broadband. Here you
can add/edit/delete your profile with the login informations from
your service provider.

You can manually edit your configuration. But beforehand you need to find out the correct settings for following entries:

1. Your provider's Access Point Name (APN). Usually your provider insert this information within your SIM card or modem package box. Or you can ask your provider's hotline help if you can't find them.
2. Username, credential to access internet services, probably a generic username (at least that is how it done here), and
3. Password, to authenticate above credential.

If those requirement fulfilled, then all you need to do is to right click Network Manager icon and choose menu Edit Connection. What you need is in Mobile connection tab. The rest, I think is pretty simple to use.

Uh, Network Manager icon right now is probably the one with two cascading computer icon. You can find them normally sitting at top right corner, near your clock.

Good luck.

Hi All,

I manage to get my service provider APN address (dst.internet), user name and passwords but still I cant add those details to mobile broadband tab in network manager because my country (BRUNEI) and internet service provider (DSTCom) name is not in the predefined list. Could somebody to help me to fix this
problem?

Thank you

Create a profile for any country and service provider. Make it
system wide useable; checkbox in the left lower corner.

Than edit it in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections with your
connection data.
