Siento no contestarte en ingles, pero mi dominio de este es muy excaso. :-)
Tienes que instalar el paquete de locales para squirrel,
'squirrelmail-locales', tras esto ejecuta 'conf/conf.pl', que estará en el
directorio donde está instalado squirrelmail, en debian no me acuerdo cual
es, y configurar el idioma por defecto.
Ya que hablamos de locales, ¿alguien sabe como activarlos tirando de la
versión inestable del CVS. Sospecho que hay que regenerarlos, pero no las
tengo todas conmigo, y no encuentro una forma fácil de realizarlo.
