Update Kernel Driver Without a RebootHi all,
I learnt the "Rebootless Linux Kernel Update" technology from Ksplice (www.ksplice.com) ) at one of the technical conferences I attended recently. I wonder if it is worth the effort to incorporate the technology into linuxwacom project or not. I know the technology is mainly for security patches. Maybe some of you who would like to use Wacom devices in a non-stop mode prefer update the driver without rebooting the system. Please share your idea with me (directly) so I know if "Update Without a Reboot" is something linuxwacom should consider or not. Thank you for any feedback you may offer in advance. I'm not sure this is necessary; the Wacom driver is a kernel module, so updating the driver doesn't need a system reboot, you just unload the old module and load the new one. If the X driver has to be updated, you restart the X server. I guess I'm not seeing why a reboot should be necessary. Re: Update Kernel Driver Without a RebootI concur with Jim. And now, with some of the major distros going towards
the HAL approach, even the x-server does not need to be restarted. Just the unload/load of the new module. My other thought on this is that it really doesn't seem worth the effort. In almost any case, the wacom device isn't going to be attached to a machine that is dependent on uptime (since many graphics applications can use a lot of cpu, affecting server load.) I can't see the need to use your time developing that when you could use the time to developed more needed features. Re: Update Kernel Driver Without a RebootCan we assume that this is not something you will be working on then?

Re: Update Kernel Driver Without a RebootHi Kory,
Sorry for not making my point clear. I should say "the case is dismissed". I will not spend any time on this topic, which includes working on it.
