Updated packages availableI've uploaded new versions of the MinGW-target autotool packages to
sourceforge, as well as a native win32 version of the xz (lzma) tools. You'll find the at the FRS https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/ in the following folders: MinGW autoconf MinGW automake MinGW libtool MinGW libiconv MinGW gettext MinGW xz The new packages satisfy the latest MinGW packaging standards, allowing a more granular installation in keeping with the "minimal" nature of MinGW. See http://www.mingw.org/PackageIdentificationHOWTO for more information. Note that the autotools are *NOT* native MinGW "ports". They are still comprised of perl and shell scripts, and as such require POSIX runtime support and use any number of unix-derived external utilities (usually available in a standard MSYS installation). But, because these versions of the autotools are used to develop MinGW applications and libraries, (as opposed to certain other versions of the autotools available from the MinGW sourceforge site which are designed for developing *MSYS* applications and libraries) the versions announced here are considered the "MinGW autotools", and carry a *-mingw32-* subsystem id. As such, all packages with *-mingw32-* in the name should be unpacked into the /mingw (e.g. C:\MinGW) directory. However, until an installer capable of managing the granular selections is available (which will happen eventually), what we have is a whole lot of packages, which you the user have to download separately and manually unpack. So what should you install? Short version: if it has "-dll" in the name, you'll probably need it at some point, so download and install all of those. After that, it's your choice. autoconf and automake are provided in multiple versions. All can be installed simultaneously, and have a "versioned" base name. For instance: automake1.10-*-mingw32-* autoconf2.5-*-mingw32-* There are also "wrapper" scripts derived from Gentoo which intelligently determine which of the various versions should be invoked. These wrapper packages have "unversioned" names: autoconf-*-mingw32-* automake-*-mingw32-* If you want ANY of the autotools, you'll definitely want these wrapper packages. -- Chuck P.S.
