Upgrading from SmartCVS 6 to 7Hi Thomas-
We are finally to the point of migrating from ver 6 to ver 7. I note that one of the changes is the protection of passphrases with a password. Many of the users need to access multiple repositories to support the multiple groups they work with. Additionally, many have configured SmartCVS to their own custom-preferences. Is it possible to migrate the .xml files stored in "Documents and Settings\username\.smartcvs\6" into "Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\syntevo\SmartCVS\7" to avoid going thru a lengthy reconfiguration process? Or does the existence of the new "passwords" file prevent this? Much thanks as always, ronb. ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Re: Upgrading from SmartCVS 6 to 7Hi Ron,
SmartCVS 7 should automatically copy the old settings to the new location keeping the original ones. Doesn't that work for you? -- Best regards, Thomas Singer _____________ syntevo GmbH http://www.syntevo.com Ron Buchholz <ronbuchholz@...> wrote: > Hi Thomas- > > We are finally to the point of migrating from ver 6 to ver 7. Re: Upgrading from SmartCVS 6 to 7Hi Thomas!
My apologies - as I've gone thru some testing of several different configurations that users will have, I did not clean the workstation appropriately between tests. I did not totally remove the "Program Files\SmartCVS" folder and the the "syntevo\SmartCVS\7" folder between tests - I'm betting they must be absent in order to get the migration of xml files on a subsequent install. Once I removed those 2 folders, of course it worked perfectly. However, it does look like one must re-provide the passphrases - even when they were stored on disk with the previous version. Is this correct/expected? Thanks, ronb. --- On Tue, 1/20/09, syntevo Support <smartcvs@...> wrote: SmartCVS 7 should automatically copy the old settings to the new location keeping the original ones. Re: Upgrading from SmartCVS 6 to 7Hi Ron,

Yes, this is correct, because SmartCVS 7 now uses a more secure password store which has to be unlocked using a master password. SmartCVS 6 used a bad scrambled password file (passwords.xml) which should be deleted after upgrading to SmartCVS 7. -- Best regards, Thomas Singer _____________ syntevo GmbH http://www.syntevo.com Ron Buchholz <ronbuchholz@...> wrote: > Hi Thomas! > > My apologies - as I've gone thru some testing of several different > configurations that users will have, I did not clean the workstation > appropriately between tests.
