VM/XA on a Z890Hello all,
It interesting to see the same names on this site too. Well my question, has anyone tried to run VM/XA or VM/ESA on a Z890? I have a customer in between hardware and software combinations now and looking for a tempory way out. Thanks all Terry L. Smith Sr. Systems Programmer |

RE: VM/XA on a Z890I havn't tried it but
http://www.reliablecomputer.com/z800.html implies that you can run vm/esa 2.1 on a z890 Dave Wade G4UGM Illegitimi Non Carborundum > -----Original Message----- > From: H390-VM@... Re: VM/XA on a Z890Hi there,
I seem to remember that with the z890 in LPAR mode a 31-bit XA/ESA machine could be set up. This option was removed on later machines. IBM released several transition pieces of hardware and software for the various environments. For VM people, z/VM 3.1 supported both a 31-bit and 64-bit CP. Guests could still be either EC, XA/ESA or 64-bit. VSE and z/OS had similar versions. The z/800 and z/890 were the transition processors. What machine is your customer running on now? MP2003? It might be worth to look at running a z/9 with z/vm 5 and the VM/XA as a guest. Oversize the box to handle the double virtualization and translations. I have a customer moving from a MP2003-204 to a z/9 BC A01 machine and the purchase price, z/VM charges, power, A/C, maintenance, etc. make the costs pretty reasonable. Migrating to a z/890 might put them in the same position in a year from now. Re: VM/XA on a Z890Hi Paul
You hit the nail right on the head. Yes the customer is on a MP2003 and looking for a way out. I don't know all the details other than I'm suppose to make a VM/XA run on a z890. Thanks Paul Terry L. MP2003 w OS/390V1.3 to z890Hi Terry,
I have a potential customer that has an MP2003 running OS/390 V1.3 in native mode. They want to convert to a z890 and still run OS/390 V1.3. Then they might want z/VM. They want it in 50 hours... It sounds like the same situation that you went through lately. Do you have any information you may share with me on the migration? Petter McFarland Sr. Systems Engineer
