Hello, I wonder if you could help me.

I work for the Accenture consultancy group and am attempting to use the Validator service to test an application we are developing in Siebel, provided by Oracle.

Siebel is based on a web interface, but it is actually an incredibly complex application with multiple parts to a page. I am totally blind myself and use a screen reader, so naturally I have some experience in these tests, but have never used it to test a page containing large blocks of interactive content, each contained within a separate applet.

We are showing many errors at the moment, which I don't really understand. I believe part of the problem is that when selecting source code with "view Source", the Validator is only taking code from the highlighted applet , rather than the whole page and is missing a lot of information such as titles and headers.

Another problem we have is that Siebel uses nested frames to separate the application out on screen and these appear to be causing issue.

Do you know if the Validator could be used to test a tool as complex as this? has it ever been done before?

Happy to try and provide more context/errors if necessary but am concerned the errors won't mean much by themselves.

Thanks.

Ed,

What do you mean by "test an application"?

If you want reasonably strict conformance to ex ante, published
standards, then HTML/CSS validation may be useful (but it still depends
on your goal).

If you want reasonable conformance with Section 508/WCAG guidelines,
then something akin to wave.webaim.org may be useful (but it still
depends on your goal).
