Tim, On a Ford small block you can run the stock valve angle (20 degrees) and weigh 3100# or run any valve angle possible with a wedge head and weigh 3250#. If a canted valve head is run, then you cannot run a power adder. The same goes for other small blocks, Chevy is 23 degree, and Mopar is 18 degree at 3100#. Any steeper and they add weight. The Chevy is at a slight disadvantage, but has some really good flowing heads available so it all evens out. Ricky Dyer

So can I run a 10degree head at 3250 with n2o as long as it is a inline head

Small Blocks & 6 cyl - with 15-18 degree heads (non production) - add 150 lb.

I don't see anything about a 10* degree head in the rules...

Over three years ago when the rules were written, the 15-18 degree small block and V6 after market heads were the most popular. Our rules state that for a V6 @ 2600# or a small block V8 @ 3100# the valve angle must be OEM. Chevy at 23, Ford at 20, and Mopar at 18. Ford and Mopar had very few after market heads available with stock valve angle that would out flow the best 23 degree Chevy, so the playing field was still fairly equal. The valve angle for a V6 or a V8 SB at 3250# with the 150# weight penalty can be as steep as you want it as long as it is a wedge head. We have already had a few that have run valve angles at 12-14 degrees (Brad, Tony, and Marty). It has been brought to my attention that we have not addressed the LS-1, but at some point we will probably need to do that. I know you already know, but I would caution you against heavy loads of nitrous on these really small combustion chambers! I am not sure what you gain with reduced ignition timing on a 10-12 degree head over more lead and nitrous on a 14-15 degree. It could be that you make more motor power and use less nitrous and can have a more reliable combination. There is currently a big debate in the ProMod ranks over this and most of them are backing compression down to 12-13 to 1.

There are allready two rules inplace that warrent no need for a rule on LSX motors. The first rule is OEM valve angle and the second rule is the new domination clause. The fastest in the class only run 5.90-6.0s.

I totally agree. We have no need at the present to change anything, but the LS1/LSX heads have gotten considerably better the past few years. It is only a matter of time before someone comes along with much more power than you could make with a 20 or 23 valve angle.
