Verizon VX8360 File Access Blocked

Some parts of this message have been removed. Learn more about Nabble's security policy.
I have been able to connect BitPim to the VX8360 phone using the VX8350 phone on the BitPim phone wizared list and manually setting the com port. The problem is that the phone provider has blocked the file access so I can not read or write to the directory. I have noted in the SourceForce archives that a user claimed that BitPim (older version) was able to access a different phone for which it was claimed that the files had been blocked by the provider.

I have also searched the internet for help to no avail. The Verizon supplied BackupAssistant is primitive, and I would like to use BitPim as I have for my previous phone. Is there any chance that there is a solution?

Hi Don, I'm new to the list and was curious about your post. Are you saying that, in your experience, BitPim doesn't work with any Verizon phone, even those listed as being supported on this page?
http://www.bitpim.org/help/

Or do you mean that BitPim doesn't work with Verizon phones not on the list?

Or do you mean that BitPim will work with those phones as long as your wireless provider is not Verizon (USA)?

I am curious because I have a phone that is on the supported list and Verizon as a wireless provider (I just signed up with Verizon two days ago). I am brand-new to BitPim and still trying to learn.

I have several of the phones on the list...none of them worked
with bitpim.....i do use verizon...
i never was successful in getting a transfer......sometimes the phone
would be seen and sometimes it would not...it never made a transfer of
info

and Bitpim developers do nothing to help..they give no suggestions, no
ideas and no concern.
I need my phone to work closely with my computer..if the two wont talk
to each other something has to go....

so it did...i dumped verizon, windows, microsoft, bitpim and the
voyager phone which was about 2 mos old

i now have a mac, iphone and ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS........i plug the
phone in or let it work via bluetooth and the computer and phone are
identical...and i can access the info anywhere on any computer using
the me.com program....
all my problems solved in one very expensive lesson...dont buy bits
and pieces and try to make them work..buy the set.....
i am living free and easy now....and no i dont work for apple or
mac..i just need working computers , and since going to mac /
iphone...i have not been frustrated irritated or even upset...

so....not sure what part of the equation was the problem...most of my
issues leaned towards bitpim..but because i am an alpha
type ...everything went and i got something that worked.

Thanks

Don,

This is my first Verizon phone, and my first post with BitPim. Thanks for letting me know you have no solution.

By the way, you only have to hit me with a brick once, but to close the issue, does anyone else second this opinion?

In all defense you get what you pay for.  Bitpim is a free application
that is of enormous use to the community.  If you want to transfer data
with your handset and get support then pay for a program like Datapilot
that does in fact support your OLD phone and YOUR NEW phone plus you can
get telephone support
You could also donate to the developers of the open source application
because they all have three or four jobs unlike commercial cell phone
application developers, but I see that as very unlikely after reading
your post.

Kind regards,

Lee Reiber

Bitpim works with MY Verizon phone - Razr 3VM.  It doesn't work with all features, but I can get my contact list and photos off of it.  That's mostly all I want.  The file interface is a bit clunky, but it gets the job done.

I have used BitPIM with no less than 5 Verizon phones over the last four or so years (two phones were mine, the rest were my kids, I'm not THAT in to changing phone).  I have never had a problem using the software.

For LG phone, make sure you have the LG drivers installed FIRST.  This isn't a BitPIM issue, this is just how you have to get your computer ready to talk to the phone.

There are great instructions (and the download) at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LGVXPhones/

I've used usb cables and bluetooth for connecting to the computer.

Don't give up.  Tell us what you're doing step-by-step and we'll help you.  BitPIM works for lots of people.  I even held off buying my enV2 until it was on the BitPIM list.

Of course, there is always that chance that Verizon did something to block the phone so there is nothing BitPIM can do.  But, if it's on BitPIM's list then they've got it to work at some point... tell everyone your firmware/software version so they'll know if there is a new issue.

I am able to transfer files and data with my LG Chocolate 3, which has Verizon service. The trick for me was to connect manually, since the bitpim version I was using at the time didn't recognize my phone automatically.

Another easy way to transfer things is to save a few files from the phone's internal memory to its micro-sd card. Then plug the card into a card reader on the PC, and transfer files to the folders the phone created on the card when it saved things over.

Verizon is known for making things difficult in an effort to get customers to buy all their features from the company. I choose my cell provider for coverage, not necessarily their attitude. Where I live, Verizon has the best coverage, so I will find ways around their attempt to cripple features.

People who say it can't be done just because *they* can't figure it out probably have velcro on their shoes, too.

I have a Dare and I just loaded the program and it worked. It is slow, but
free.
When the Apple exclusive is up with At&T, apple will crush the market
because all their software will have been written and tested by others for
free (because apple has made source code available) the only down side to
AT&T is the coverage is horrible when you leave major metropolitan areas.

But I didn't do anything special to get the program to work.

so for those of us with Verizon Motorola phones with blocked file access, has anyone managed to circumvent that to get sms messages off the phone?  If so, did it require seem editing?  I am trying to piece this all together in my head.  :)

The key to success in this is to take it one step at a time. First make sure the right drivers are installed on the PC, and that bitpim is communicating to the phone. Test out what will transfer and what won't. Share those details. Someone else will have to chime in on sms messages. I have no experience with transferring those. If you work with folks on this list, and give them specifics, they can help.

bitpim does work with at least some verizon phones, I know that my old lg vx8300 worked amazingly well with bitpim, but the big part is making sure you have a phone that is on the compatibility list

By the way, you only have to hit me with a brick once, but to close the issue, does anyone else second this opinion?

I absolutely love this.  Finally a long discussion and flame on this subject.

I have verizon and will keep the F*ck&rs, because they have the best and most reliable network with the best email and messaging in the areas where I need it.

For all other things, I hate them.

I have a Verizon Motorola Razr V3M, a phone which has enough power to have landed Armstrong safely on the moon and returned him to earth.

However, the phone can't even let me see what time it is while I'm on a call.  There's no way on this marvel of hardware and software engineering to tell the day and time while on a call.

As for Bitpim, it's useless for this phone.  All I want to do is copy my SMS and photos.

Bitpim DOES NOT WORK with the verizon v3m and I have no idea how to make it work.

As for the developers of bitpim, you will see just how quiet and useless they are on this problem.  I've been trying to solve this for a year.  I even asked about a very suspicious line of code I found and got NO RESPONSE AT ALL.

As for the responsibility of the developers to FIX this problem?

THEY HAVE ZERO RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS.

BITPIM IS FREE.

THIS FORUM IS FREE.

WE CAN BITCH ALL WE WANT, BUT THAT IS POINTLESS, BECAUSE THIS IS FREE.

THE DEVELOPERS ARE NOT PAID AND HAVE ZERO OBLIGATION TO THIS OR ANY OF US.

This is, however, supposed to be a user community.

I have asked time and again for people with Verizon v3m service if they get SMS backup.  No one responds.

As for the guy who responded earlier about the photos and SMS on a v3m, I don't believe him.

Let's see what he has to say to that.

bitpim does work with at least some verizon phones, I know that my old lg vx8300 worked amazingly well with bitpim, but the big part is making sure you have a phone that is on the compatibility list

Don,

This is my first Verizon phone, and my first post with BitPim. Thanks for letting me know you have no solution.

By the way, you only have to hit me with a brick once, but to close the issue, does anyone else second this opinion?

NO.....There is no solution to this useless program...how long will you people continue trying..give it up.....Bitpim does not work with any verizon phone...and thats the way verizon wants it.

solution - buy another phone and get another service.....

how often do you have to get hit with a brick before you see its gonna hurt

Thanks
Don

I think I'm the guy you are referring to who you don't believe.  I get my photos and contacts from my  RAZR V3M Verizon phone.  PITA to do, but it works.  I think the key is the phone "name" and ports.  The detect function of BitPim wants to label my phone a V3C or V3CM which WON'T work.  You have to hard code V3M and then look at what ports are available (serial if I recall correctly) -- play with the ports.  I think it depends on your computer set up because it's different for me at home vs work.  But I have it working both places.

Oh, and the other thing I think I've identified is some cables don't work for this.  Don't know why, but I've had trouble with some USB cables.  You might want to mix those up if you can't  get it to work.  Otherwise, email me off list and maybe we can walk thru it on the phone.

Different subject, but this coverage thing is bothering me.  I love VZ coverage, but I ordered new phones a few weeks ago and I get nothing at home --- so I canceled the account.  I hated like hell to do it, but what choices do i have?  Anyone here ever set up an antenna and mini-cell network in the house?  Otherwise, I guess I'll switch to AT&T.

Not sure what this is about; but Bitpim works just fine with my
Verizon (LG) VX10000 (Voyager). But I'm still wondering whether
Bitpim typically takes a couple minutes to fully load; nobody has
bothered to respond to that question. Nor my other about whether I
can download my pix and flix using Bitpim.
