Very bad color calibration when printing on Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster

Hi,

I've done several very successful prints with my Epson R2880 using
Canon Photo Rag Paper (it's actually manufactured by hahnenmuhle). To
print on that I set gutenprint to Matte Paper as that looked the
closest and got good output that roughly matched my monitor, that
calibrated using an ICC profile for the model although not generated
by me with a color calibration device. I now used Epson's Ultra
Premium Photo Paper Luster, setting the driver to "Premium Luster
Photo Paper". The resulting print is very noticeably off. The white
balance seems too warm and green. Any ideas of what could be causing
this? I'm using 5.2.4 on Ubuntu 9.10.

Pedro

I don't understand one point -- are you using an ICC profile for the
printer?

I forgot to reply to the list and only sent the mail to Robert. I am
using an ICC profile for the monitor only. From what I understand
gutenprint doesn't use ICC profiles for papers/printers. Anything I
can do to correct this problem?

Any idea about this? I had forgotten that I changed from printing with
Matte Black ink to Photo Black one. Could the Photo Black calibrations
be off?

Remind me what printer this is?  Sorry -- this has been a very chaotic
week.

What system are you printing on?

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic (9.10), on amd64, printing from Gimp and using
gutenprint 5.2.4 as packaged by ubuntu.

Thanks looking into it,

Pedro

Sorry for being a nag. Is there anything I can do about this? The
printer is useless for color work right now.

No, it's my fault for forgetting about this.

Can you send me a scan of e. g. the CUPS color wheel?
