Volume control question

Hi All,

I have added a couple of stops to Paul's fantastic ACO disposition and would like to control their volume with a virtual slider (using the skin element  Paul uses for the Alterables volume) but still control the overall sound produced via the swell pedal.

For example if I have very soft ranks playing and I want to add a soft piano, I would like to set the slider at a low volume. Conversely, if I have very loud ranks playing I would like to set the piano at a high volume.

Would someone be kind enough to show me how to program a continuous filter to accomplish this.

Kind Regards,

Dennis

This is the standard I use for my dispositions:

The swell and choir expression continuous filters use "set 11" as a volume command. Voicing volume controls use "set 7".

If you want to do it the easy way, take the "Chime/Zimbelstern Volume" and copy it. Under "Description" change the name to "KERAULOPHONE VOLUME" (or whatever your new stop is named). Under "Properties" add the reference to the "Keraulophone" rank and make sure the references to the Chimes and Zimbelstern ranks are gone.

Also, make sure there is no "Engaged... set 176   set 7    set 100" command in the "Keraulophone" rank. The "Disengaged  set 176   set 7   set 0" command is fine. leave it there. The voicing command continuous filter takes the place of the Engaged command. (If neither are there, don't worry. Everything will still work!

Paul

Hi Paul,

I had 2 questions for you:

  1.  I saw this post and started experimenting this evening creating a seperate voicing screen for ACO 4 and other than a re-learning curve which i've overcome mostly i think i am missing something.  My question on this subject is how do you "copy" an existing element?  Did you mean manually create and fill in data or is there a function i am not getting to work that allows a copy function?

  2.  (Outside of this topic) - Have you had time to play with Jorgan 3.8 with aco 4.0 and do you happen to know when 3.8 might be finalized?  I'm perfectly happy with 3.7 with one exception and that is that i'd like the ability to manipulate the recorder via midi buttons which i understand is new in 3.8.  Other than that i wouldn't migrate, i just like certain bells and whistles, lol.  I just was wondering if I should wait before i go through the process of customizing my installation if there are going to be issues when i upgrade.  I have been following most of the posts on 3.8 but wonder how it affects ACO if at all.?

Thanks,

Al

For question 1:

When copying  you have to be in the "Elements" window. With the desired element selected, hit Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V and presto, it's copied.

For question 2:

No I haven't played with jOrgan 3.8 Betas that much. I know everything works and sounds the same. I had some troubles getting the recorder to function. My logic right now is that if jOrgan follows the same pattern, everything will migrate and work pretty much as before. (And I'm hoping for that generic "recorder" element that contains everything needed for record and play... just plop it on the console and it's ready to go fully functional.)

Regarding question 2

With my Christie disposition I have tried V3.8 beta 3.  (and the previous betas)  My findings are that the Recorder function is not yet working.  Sven acknowledges this and advises to wait for the next release (which is promised soon).

The big progression with V3.8 is the separate file for combination memory.  All other aspects are working fine except for the recorder.

My findings are that the recorder in version 3.7 is the most usable at this stage.  All keyboards are recorded and replay properly.  My disposition has problems with recording the console function (combination and tab changes) due to same named elements.  Sven advises this will be fixed in the next release of V3.8.

Regards
Rick

Thankyou for the reply and ditto, I too have been having too much fun with ACO 4 and not worrying so much about my sole reason to upgrade to 3.8 for recorder functions.

I think i'll stick with 3.7 and aco 4.0, work on my voicing screen and anxiously await you Harpsichord projects.

As for the copy function, Thank you!  This helps alot!    Forgive my ignorance but i have been so pre-occupied on the pc automation and pipe integration side that i have not been too in touch with the writing disposition side but, I'm getting into it now and thanks.

(I've been having too much fun with ACO 4.0 and with harpsichords to worry about 3.8)

Paul

Thanks,

Al

Hi All,

I have added a couple of stops to Paul's fantastic ACO disposition and would
like to control their volume with a virtual slider (using the skin element
Paul uses for the Alterables volume) but still control the overall sound
produced via the swell pedal.

For example if I have very soft ranks playing and I want to add a soft
piano, I would like to set the slider at a low volume. Conversely, if I have
very loud ranks playing I would like to set the piano at a high volume.

Would someone be kind enough to show me how to program a continuous filter
to accomplish this.

Kind Regards,

Dennis

Hi, Al,

If you click on an element on the list, CNTRL-D copies it, then you can change the bits you need for the new version.

     Have fun,

         Roy.
