Volunteering to write a sync to EverrnoteGuys,
I'm a heavy Evernote user and would like to see a proper Linux client. Hunting around I found Tomboy, and your plug in architecture seems like it would lend itself nicely to writing a connector to the Evernote API. And I see that it's a task that on your roadmap as well. So I pulled down your source, and set up a dev environment and started having a play. I've been doing C# and ASP.NET for the last few years and a lot of Linux C++ before that so while mono is new there's nothing too strange there. It's also nice to see how far Linux dev environments have come in my few years of absence from the scene. Finally I thought I'd announce what I'm doing so that if someone here happened to be already working on the same thing we could join forces. There's no point duplicating effort. Also, if the group has some fundamental philosophical objection to what I'm doing that would be nice to know before I invest a lot of time in the project. I shouldn't need much help. But if I do, am I correct in assuming this is the place to post technical questions? And I see that it's a task that on your roadmap as well. Very cool! Just so you know, Evernote support isn't actually on our roadmap [0], but it is a frequently requested feature by some of our users [1][2], so I'm glad somebody has stepped up to start working on it! > Finally I thought I'd announce what I'm doing so that if someone here > happened to be already working on the same thing we could join forces. > There's no point duplicating effort. We are all for interoperability between Tomboy and other note-taking apps/services. You may run into problems if Evernote and Tomboy lack some of the same features, but that's expected. If you want to work on adding Evernote features into the core of Tomboy, it's best to probably collaborate on that. But hopefully you'll find that you can do a lot from a simple add-in. :-) > I shouldn't need much help. But if I do, am I correct in assuming this > is the place to post technical questions? Yup. We also hang out in IRC, in the #tomboy channel on GIMPNet. Good luck, have fun, and let us know if you need any help. Re: Volunteering to write a sync to EverrnoteSandy,
Thanks, that all sounds perfectly reasonable. You are right there is going to be a disparity in feature coverage, but that's expected. I also imagine the different note formats between Evernote and Tomboy is going to be interesting. As you suggest I'll start with the add-in and see where it goes from there.
