Vote about which codeline should use the name "eGroupWare" (Second Call)Dear Projectmembers,
We, the eGroupWare admins, still think the most democratic way to settle the current situation is to vote on it. Beside all of the reasons we have stated so far, the current discussion on the lists has not resulted in an acceptable resolution. But, it has instead added one more reason to continue with the vote: If we follow the path to merge the Tine sources into the eGroupWare svn, we ultimately will have to give every Tine developer access to it. This means they become eGroupWare members and that the proposed vote by Tine (which codeline should become the next release, planned for the first quarter of 2008) can be simply won by requesting svn access for enough Metaways employees. We feel the current project members should decide this, and we are certainly willing to accept the outcome. In fact, everyone will have to deal with and accept the outcome, whatever that may be. We understand that many of you are very reluctant to vote on this matter. But, in our understanding it has to be done, and it has to be done now. We want to add that what we said about the relationship between the two projects/efforts is of course still valid after the vote. Having said the above, our call to vote from the 12th December still stands: Your eGroupWare admins Ralf Becker, Pim Snel, Miles Lott ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. I, an eGroupWare developer, still can not vote for anyting on that ballot. Certainly, there is an option missing: ---------------------------------- 3) Let things stay as they are, let Lars commit their conceptual code to a branch in eGWs SVN, for he is a full eGW member and, as maintainer of that branch, let him be mentor for contributors to that branch, if he likes. ---------------------------------- I think this is MUCH more in line with the spirit of eGWs Constitution, at least as I understood it, when I voted for it. Don't get me wrong, as long as Tine20 is not a fully working groupware with most of eGWs features and an upgrade-path as well as all the different interfaces for fat-clients and mobile devices, I'm not convinced it should replace trunk. But, if and when the branch matures, there's still time to have an admin decision about that replacement and procede according to the eGW Constitution, then. As written before, we fear there's no real vote, once we agree to make all Tine developers project members of the eGroupWare project. If you think, Lars and Conny should continue as they do currently, you can only vote NO and maybe hope ... Hello admins! I don't want to comment on this topic anymore. But maybe it would have been possible to give someone access to a special branch in the svn, without making him a full project member.
