I have a colleague who's tried kst 2.0.0 beta 3. He liked it, apart from a worrying problem which he describes as follows:

Starting a fresh kst2 session, with a .kst file having 2 tabs, the first tabs contains 8 plots with 1 to 3 curves each and the 2nd tab has 3 plots with 3 curves each.  Each curve contains from 2 to 12000 points.

Just after starting, kst2 requires about 92MB RAM. When just scrolling the mouse pointer over kst2, this amount increases by ~5MB each time the active plot toggles or if the tab is changed.. and the memory needs increases, increases until kst2 crashes (by ~1.1GB)

It looks like a memory leak is trapped somewhere….

Sounds like something we should do something about!

Nicolas

Nicolas

Thanks, Nicholas!  I'll get right on this.  This was under Windows, correct?
Debug build?

Good thing we called it a beta!

Yes, it was under Windows, compiled with Qt Creator 2009.02 (Qt version
4.5.1), with the default build options. I just unpacked the
kst-2.0.0beta3 archive, opened kst.pro in Creator and clicked on "Build
all". The resulting exe is 43 MB (!) so yes, I suppose it is a debug
build :-)
I don't know how far your son has come with preparing a Windows package,
but one thing is sure: he'll have to change the build options. And one
thing I haven't tried is to compile gsl under Windows so that we can
have all the nice plugins based on it. It would be nice to do it...

Thanks for your support,

Nicolas
