Anybody got one (preferrably a made-for-IBM) lying around that they'll sell
to me cheap?  I need to make some images from some old Lotus 1-2-3
floppies.

Bill

I seem to remember that they were copy protected. Anyone know for sure?

1-2-3 was copy protected, yes.  iirc, they put an intentional
bad-in-a-certain-pattern sector on the disk.  Total pain in the ass for
a university computer lab.  And they never did understand why people
ditched them for the competition as soon as there was viable competition...

That said, we have a 5.25" floppy we could probably spare.

I seem to recall having good with with Copy II PC way back then.  I
probably still even have my backup copy of Lotus 1-2-3 2.4.

I had a Copy II board for my PC, which would copy almost anything. I gave
it away when I left the 'states because it had been years since I had
seen a copy protected disk and no longer had a computer it would run on.

In retrospect, since that computer had 5 1/4 and 3.5" floppy drives, a 60 meg
QIC tape drive (that would read 10 and 30 meg tapes), the copy II board, an
EPROM burner and some other interesing things, I should have kept it.

I had no idea that 12 years later I would actually miss the darn thing. :-)

Back to Lotus, I seem to remember that with the CopyII PC package was a
program which bypassed the copy protection for some programs. I don't remember
the name of it, or if it worked with Lotus.

Not me. I've done it for Mac stuff, and then found that someone had done
a much better job (3gig of 680x0 Mac programs) and put it out on BitTorrent.

Not that I trust all of it, I ran a virus scan on it, and found that a file
had been infected in 1994. Luckily antivirus programs are still available.
