Hello,

A couple of things about the Web Team

1) We have been having some meetings about the sf complex.org website
on Wednesdays @ 2pm. (right before the art group)  Anyone is welcome,
and we are looking to move ahead on the project this month/next.  Does
that time work for everyone that is interested?  suggestions?

2) I want to see if there is any interest in also having a weekly
group meetup to discuss something web or tech related.

Keep me on this list, if it becomes separate. I will make as many of
these as I can, I am very interested but unable to come regularly for
the next couple of months. Thanks, and so glad you all are taking
action on this: timely and necessary.
Excellent news.

I'd love a weekly tech talk that discussed new and emerging
technologies.  Our recent javascript: server side, client side, and
json in between might be a good start.  Ditto XMPP.  Then the various
nifty technologies like:
- Google App Engine
- Aptana Cloud and Studio
- Google Maps/Earth & Apps API
- Adobe Flex, Flash, and Air

Maybe we'd take a topic each week with one of us volunteering to lead
the related discussion.

Hi Mick.  When would you like to meet on 2) below -- Weekly Tech talk?

We could do it Wed after the Web Tech, although that's also the Art
meeting.

There will be overlap in people wanting to come to both the Web
meeting and the Arts meeting. Several on the Arts Group have already
expressed interest
Better not to make people have to choose either / or.
What about right after the Arts Meeting, so people can stay for both?
Web Tech people are invited to all the Arts Meetings, by the way,
since design and also the events at the Complex brought about by the
Arts Group, are of interest to both.

My preference is to avoid a conflict as well.

So what is a better time?  earlier on wednesday? later?  a different day?

The tech group has been meeting lightly and sporadically at 11:30a on
Tuesdays then going to lunch at 12:30p at El Tesoro. We had a nice
whiteboard session 2 weeks ago with Fabio, Owen and John Guerin about
the first 4 "skunkworks" projects we're trying to accomplish. Perhaps
Owen can review these this wed at 11:30a. I think we took a photo of
the whiteboard.

I'll be out this upcoming week but back the following week...

I'd like the 11:30 time slot as well, we might draw in the older
wedtech crew too.  Its nice to go to lunch afterwards as well to chat
about the tech session.

Mick: are you OK with the 11:30 slot for a general tech chat and
keeping the 2:00 slot for the Web Team meeting?

I'd be willing to review the earlier conversations Steve mentions below.

Oops! Steve: Did you mean Tuesday?  .. or Wednesday?  I missed that on
first reading because the WedTech meetings and lunches are on,
surprise!, Wednesday.

It's not clear we resolved our schedules but here's what I'm doing
tomorrow:
- 11:30 I'll be at the complex, hoping folks interested in 2) below
will there too.
-  2:00 I'd like to sit in on the Web Team meeting.  My interest is in
our web direction, and if 2) could help, and how to bring in our art/
design/audio/video talent into the mix.

In terms of 2), there have been a few discussions recently as to where
to focus.  Three areas have been defined:

1 - Geo/Spatial (Place) computing.  This includes urban studies, GIS,
modeling on maps, city knowledge and more.

2 - Ambient Computing.  This includes pulling the computer out of the
box into the world.  Sand Table.  Wii Remote.  Projector/Camera
calibration.  Actuators/Sensors.  Arduino.  Robotics.

3 - Modeling and Visualization.  This includes ABM (Agent Based
Modeling), Data farming and analysis, statistics, visualization,
social networks, power laws and other long/fat tailed distributions.

A sub-text to this is multi-disciplinary projects.  How to include
ethnographers, artists, designers, urban studies, city knowledge,
cops, and more .. all working on the same project.  No silos allowed.
No art vs tech vs science vs math.  We're all in it together.
