Welcome to the group!   Although the list is growing larger, we are
currently a very small group with a very large charter.  I know there
are folks with backgrounds in network management, security, integration
and operations interested in this working group,  and we are going to
need all those areas of expertise in order to be successful.  Please
feel free to send mail to the working group at this point letting the
members know what particular interests or technology expertise you have
to share.  What do YOU think are the main challenges we face in
designing and building operations and security systems for GENI?  Also,
please take a look at the Working Group overview document to see draft
charters for all the working groups
(http://www.geni.net/geni-engineering-conference/geni-engineering-
conference.html).  We'll be setting up collaboration spaces for the
working groups soon, so pointers to relevant papers, research labs,
existing network products etc. are all useful things to discuss on the
mailing list now.

As you all probably already know, I am the GPO Operations Director, as
well as current chair of this working group.  In the future, I hope to
find  a co-chair, as well as a system engineer for our group.  You
probably also know about the GENI Engineering Conference in Minnesota,
where we will have our first face-to-face working group meeting.
Members of the GPO and GSC will also be there, so I encourage you to
attend if you can (for more details, see
http://www.geni.net/geni-engineering-conference/geni-engineering-
conference.html).

Next week (September 25), there will be an optical workshop in
Washington, D.C.  If you have any insights into ways that GENI
Operations and Security can take advantage or recent advances in
optics, or any questions that you would like to make sure we pose to
the optical experts who'll be there (some of whom are also in the GENI
Substrate Working Group), let the list know, and I'll pass them on.

Please spread the word that GENI is actively seeking participants to
your colleagues, and introduce yourself to the existing list as soon as
you have time to write a few lines.  I hope to see some of you in
October, and to hear from all of you frequently on this list!  Thanks
for your early interest.
