What's everyone up to lately?I've just finished my exams, got my results for last semester and I did ok, hooray!
So now I've got a presentation on Doctor Zhivago to do, War and Peace to read, a bunch of translation coursework and some poems to get to grips with. Plus I'm going back to Russia for a month over Easter, so I'm up to my eyeballs in organising that. Also, I'm making preliminary preparations for moving to London in the summer. So, busy busy busy! Re: What's everyone up to lately? It's mostly uni work, and I need to resubmit an essay on Hinduism because I failed. Although this was the essay I wrote the morning I gave it in, so to be honest, I'm not that worried.
Other than that, not a lot is planned for me right now. How dull. MAKE TEA. NOT WAR |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Ooh, you lucky ducky--going to Russia again! Where are you going this time?
Good luck with all the coursework. I remember those uni days...and I'm glad they're over! |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Last year I worked part time...3 days a week for the first time in 20 yrs. This yr I'm back full time as a classroom teacher and although I have only 19 kids and they are lovely and I'm so enjoying being back on class doing fun things with the kids, I am finding the workload to be unbearable. Being a disadvantaged school, we have alot of special programmes and initiatives which put alot more work onto us regular teachers. The job alone is more than enough to take up most of our school and home time but with this other stuff, which I don't think really helps at all, I am totally exhausted and have been working 18 hour days, 7 days a week and school only started back a week and a half ago. I"m currently updating my details to put a transfer in to a school that doesn't have all this extra stuff to deal with. I've put alot of time and effort into the job over the yrs and now I've decided that I deserve a life of my own. I had that last yr and i"m so pleased that I had that part time yr to really be a decent mother and wife and also enjoy myself as well. So.....here's to the new year....that I survive it and here's hoping my transfer will be approved and I can move on to greener pastures and a more fullfilling and healthy life.

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Same old same-old, really. Work, sleep. Dance class is picking up, as we're starting to train for a professional performance in late April. We're dancing back-up during the Michael Jackson "Thriller" number, I's gonna be a zombie XDDD So we have to reeeeeally tighten up our execution.
Been watching Torchwood and kvetching about how it's not as good as Sarah Jane Adventures *LOL* Well it isn't, it just isn't as tight or as well thought out. The characters still seem one-dimensional (although I notice they're *trying* to do something with Toshiko) and Captain Jack still gives the impression of trying to herd cats. They're supposed to be a crack team of alien experts, well I think the crack team is over there on Bannerman Road :-P They *still* can't seem to save anybody. It speaks volumes when an old woman and a couple of high school kids are more effective, a better team, and save more lives (including alien ones) than this group of supposed experts :-P And they dress better too. Dressing all in black isn't "naff" or intimidating, guys, it just says "I have no idea what to wear" XD I think the most telling point is that Dead Ringers zinged Torchwood several times, but hasn't touched Sarah Jane Adventures ^_~ But enough of my kvetching! (I do like Torchwood; I like to hate it. I watch it so I can hate it in detail and be very certain of exactly what I hate about it ^_^ ) |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Ooh, good luck with all that stuff, everybody!
Dasha, I'm going back to the foster community where I taught English last year - I really miss them! Plus, I need to carry on indoctrinating them - I'll be armed with more episodes of SJA! 'Life is the most wonderful fairy tale of all!' - Hans Christian Andersen, from What The Whole Family Said |

Re: What's everyone up to lately? After reading for several hours I have cometo the inevitable conclusion: I am the youngest (or one of)
person on this borad. My life seems significantly dull by comparioson. Its bassically puberty, GCSE's (or high school for anyone in america, and GCSE's are what you do at sixteen, only I'll be taking mine at fifteen beacuse I am young for my year, except for Drama which I had to do out of school because I didn't have any spaces left) and SJ in my spare time. So I'm juggling twelve GCSE's and a falling (more like fallen) apart family which leaves me to clean up the mess. But I am really not cpomplaining, my mum is working super hard, and she is doing a super duper job. All I can see for the next four months is stress and coursework. But I'll get over it. My life is just mates hanging out in parks, paperclips in an all girls grammar school and mooiching at home. I have no job to do,and no kids to look after (unless you coun't my dad, when he visits he's childish enough for a baby sometimes). But I am happy for Llin about her results, rock on dude. That's another thing, I have started referring to everyone as dude, regardless of if they are female. Over and out dudes! |

Re: What's everyone up to lately? That sounds like a really great experience, volunteering in an orphanage. I'm sure that the kids will be happy to see you again. And yes, definitely turn as many Russians as you can on to SJA!!!

Re: What's everyone up to lately?

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Hi! Hope that your chem test went well!
Bill and Ted are the main characters from a HILARIOUS 1980's movie called _Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure_. You should watch it when you get the chance; it is sooooo funny! Bill and Ted are Valley Boys from San Dimas (a suburb of Los Angeles) who are in danger of failing their history class. A mysterious figure from the future leads them on a time-traveling adventure so that they can meet famous historical figures and learn enough to pass their test. They travel thru time in a telephone booth...it's kind of like Dr. Who, California style. :) When my husband was 14 years old one of his friends bet him that he couldn't watch this movie every day for a month. My husband won the bet...and even though he has seen _Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure_ so many times, it is still one of his favorites. So you can tell that it is really a good movie. Oh, and Keanu Reeves, who is always fun to watch, plays Ted. If you watch the movie, I hope you like it, dude! |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Wow, it sounds just like my life, minus the telephone booth. The science exam was a total dodlle, I don't get why our school makes the mocks harder than the real thing... ??????
And then there's parents evening... eek! I have failed the last two maths tests and I hjave another one on monday, and parents eivening is on wednesday... I cannot WAIT to get to A-Levels and drop maths, I am counting the hours! Oooops... my non-SJ worshipping ,other just came in and told me to revise. Hrrrrrrrm! Okeee dokee, the laws of indecies. This should be thrilling! Over and peace out, dudes! |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Hello SJ friends.
Here in Australia, I saw this funny thing recently. http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/07/05/costa_narrowweb__300x386,0.jpg Michael Costa is a prominent politician in NSW parliament in Sydney He's also called "Dr Evil" due to his uncanny resemblance to a certain film villian of recent years. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,6022544,00.jpg Is a cartoon of Costa in the national press here recently. Can you see the resemblance to the K1 Robot in the '74 story?. http://lightning70.tripod.com/robot.html I thought it was quite amusing. Clearly the cartoonist is a Dr Who supporter eh!. I'm well and working on a new research paper, which occupies my time. We need a lot of rain though here especially in Tasmania where I live. The drought continues even into autumn...... pip pip, Phil in Sth Croydon... sort of.. |

Re: What's everyone up to lately?Ayup,
Its been a bit cool and wet here in Tassie, so last weeekend we watched Death to the Daleks. The early scenes on Exxilon are tense as the TARDIS lands and the Doctor and Sarah venture out onto the planet's surface in the night.... Seeing our Sarah in her bathing costume was good though, quite a raver actually. Question: In episode 3, has anyone ever seen or could assist in finding clear images of the city symbols on the walls and the maze as well. I've a fondness for mazes and I've tried to pause the video but it would help if one had complete images. Perhaps a job for Llin and the crew ?. Perhaps when it eventually appears on DVD, there may be something in the photo gallery as I've seen a few snippets off camera from this story in the studio. Overall the story is very good and still is tense and is well filmed in Dorset I think. I recall seeing it many times as a lad on the farm here in Tassie, most exciting and its a pity the story isn't remarked upon more as I think its a ripper!. Let me know about those city symbols and maze . Good health, Phil alert for electric floors |
