What to do with the trunk?

by John Simons :: Rate this Message:

Now that all projects have been migrated into their own folders, what
is the plan for the trunk?

The trunk currently still has the following:
- docs
- Experiments
- Samples
- Setup
- SharedLibs
- Tools/VSNetWizards
- Facilities/DynamicLoader
- Facilities/EventWiring
- Facilities/FactorySupport
- Facilities/Remoting
- Facilities/TypedFactory

Should we wait for the MonoRail release and after that get rid of it?

Cheers
John

The Facilities/EventWiring and Facilities/Remoting contains the test
cases of this facilities, but those facilities are embedded on the
Windsor project. Maybe we should embedded those tests on the windsor
or mk suite, dunno.

Regarding the Samples, originally I was all for just removing them... but I've decide instead that it would be best to have something rather than nothing, and it's going to take some time to produce new ones.

I'll go through them one-by-one, and ensure they build and execute. If they don't build and run, and it's not trivial to fix them, I'll remove them.

For the ones that remain, I'll be creating a new top-level area called /Samples, and within it will reside each of the current samples. They'll be setup to build using the new structure, although they'll use a different methodology for packaging, since it's the source that matters more than the executable (based on their category, e.g. all InversionOfControl samples will build into a single zip file, with source).

That way we've got Samples that at least execute against the current code.

I'll be sending out another email requesting input from the community regarding the type of application would best suit as guidance for Castle.

Richard,
In regards to moving Samples out of the trunk, just be careful because
the /site nant script builds these out of the /trunk/Samples as part
of building the website.

Yep. I'll be modifying the site build script.

I'm also thinking that the sample file packages should be on Sourceforge...

I totally agree, specially now that Sample is a project on its own.
but this also means changes to the website, to pages like -
http://www.castleproject.org/monorail/gettingstarted/index.html
