When Band Name Does Not Include 'the'The following applies even when 'the' is included on most or all of the artist/band/group's album covers:
When official documentation such as the artist website will always use a lowercase 'the' and sometimes leaves the 'the' out all together, the artist's name does not include 'the'. Only when the 'the' is always included and capitalized should we include 'the' in the artist name. |

Re: When Band Name Does Not Include 'the'(Clarification note to the list, geekmaster1 identified in IRC that he intends this to be an RFC).
I personally oppose this. Based on discussion with geekmaster1 (aka lancerocke) in IRC, he intends that front covers not be considered definitive, that all other liners, websites, newspaper/magazine articles about the band, etc, *all* have to use "The", and always capitalized (so "the" wouldn't count), else "the" would be omitted from the artist name. While it can be messy determining whether a group should have "The" in its name, I think this is best handled on a case by case basis, not by creating a new guideline, especially one that says the name on the front cover of records shouldn't be considered. Re: When Band Name Does Not Include 'the'Completely agreed with Brian. There is no need for a guideline here
which would merely conflict with the (admittedly vague, but only workable) principle of ConsistentOriginalData. I'm not even sure what "problem" this is trying to solve.
