When is the release date, for releases with limited distribution?

The question is, when exactly is the release date?  In this case, for the digital download, the initial release was limited to only a select group - akin to a fan club only release.  It later had availability expanded to the public at large.

I would suggest that availability shouldn't come into play; the mere fact of release should define the date of release.  However, it has been suggested that the date of full availability should, instead, be the RE date.  Now, I see this as problematic at best, esp for those fan club types of releases which may never even have global availability.  But I figured it's a question the style list may want to consider (and an attempt to breathe some life into this list! :D)

hm, both?

I wouldn't want to exclude either date, I think they are two seperate release
events.
