When you ask a question, comparing to WindowsQuite often a newbie asks if KDE has something similar to what they use in
Windows. There's one problem with that. Many of us don't use Windows at all. I have never seen Vista in action, so haven't a clue what it looks like. That's not to say that we can't answer the question, but we do need more help. If you are asking about an application equivalence, tell us a bit about what the application does (unless it's a *very* well known one that has been around for years. If you are asking about a display feature, either describe it thoroughly, or even better, go to imagebin.org or imageshack.us and paste a screenshot. The better we understand your needs, the easier it is to answer. Anne -- New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org Just found a cool new feature? And we have no Windows machines around here! > That's not to say that we can't answer the question, but we do need more help. > > If you are asking about an application equivalence, tell us a bit about what > the application does (unless it's a *very* well known one that has been around > for years. > > If you are asking about a display feature, either describe it thoroughly, Which I think I did, and got some useful answers (useful if you use KDE4). > or even better, go to imagebin.org or imageshack.us and paste a screenshot. That would be useful IF the Windows Vista machine in question wasn't 3000 miles away from me in the hands of elderly, non-technical people who are barely able to handle reading and sending AOL mail ... > The better we understand your needs, the easier it is to answer. True. But in my years of hanging out on Linux email lists, I've frequently heard people on Linux lists proclaiming how much better KDE/GNOME/Linux is than Windows and/or Mac OS X - yet have never used either. I figured there were some folk here knowledgeable enough of know what I was talking about - and there were. -- David gnome@... authenticity, honesty, community ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde-linux mailing list. I started working many years ago with the IBM PC under DOS, then under Windows 3.5,Windows 2000, XP and so on. I changed over, years ago, to Linux. I had a lot of reasons for doing so. However, the answer to the question if Linux is much better then Windows/Mac or not, remains a very subjective one. I would say, we all cannot be knowledgeable enough. What Anne suggests, to describe the problem in the best possible form, remains always true. You did agree.
