I dont know if this is common but I noticed whenever I start steam a window call steam client service popups up and tells me all the ips its connects to and its time. it says its personal best is 27 milliseconds, and my computer connected in 22 milliseconds.  Here is a picture. ITS NOT PHOTOSHOP I PROMISE. Here is direct image, click on it to zoom in.

Duh, you're running Linux. It would have to have been the GIMP.
Just kidding.

Does the extra terminal window cause any errors, or does everything work just fine? I think you can have things outputted in a real terminal if you run Steam from there (so it won't create a wineterminal like the one you're seeing).

You ran it through a terminal? I'm not seeing it... Did you move it to a different tab?

Anyway, if the wineconsole isn't causing errors, you might as well just move it out of the way too.

I did say "joke", you know?

Yes, that's "normal". If you use special programs that can capture console output from GUI apps on windows you'll see the same thing.

I just realised before you posted but since there is no edit button and I didn't want to double post.

(Someone should just put a big flashing "READ THIS OR DIE" thingy that pointed to that.)

Actually, it might be good to have a general "READ ME FIRST" forum topic where the most frequently asked questions and answers are put, as well as the most useful links and forum notes (editing disabled etc).
