Writer wanted: Semantic Desktop in Mandriva

Hi,

I've been following a bit what's going on with the Semantic Desktop in Mandriva.
Mandriva, as the forge of the Semantic Desktop for KDE is coming along very nicely
and I think they're miles ahead of others (distros, desktops, OS'en). In other words,
the Semantic Desktop is really arriving as of Mandriva's newest release.

I think it would be good if we dedicated an article to this exciting new core
technology in KDE. If someone feels like writing one, here are a couple of pointers:

- Nepomuk in Mandriva 2010: http://doc4.mandriva.org/bin/view/labs/Nepomuk-mdv2010-RC
- A video showing how semantic features ntegrate into user's workflows:
  http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb0szq_nepomuk-semantic-desktop-under-mand
- News in KDE 4: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2010.0_What's_New#KDE_4.3
- This could be extended with what we're planning for 4.4 to give some kind of
outlook into the near future (think of activities in Plasma, Virtuoso backend,
Nepomuk/Akonadi, Timeline (Zeitgeist) KIO slave, ...)

For more original content (as if the above is not enough already ;)), we could get
some deeper insight from Sebastian Trueg or Laura Dragan. There's also a nice cross-
desktop angle to this (shared ontologies) and certainly a scientific angle as well
(the whole semantic* namespace is basically owned by researchers).

The goal of the article would be to show that the semantic desktop is not just a pie-
in-the-sky, but really arriving at our users. It also makes the concept of the
semantic desktop a lot more tangible to many.

Possible title: "Semantic Desktop Starts to Arrive"

Also an interesting read if you're not interested in writing, of course ;)

I'd be happy to help with reviewing and stuff, but realistically my plate is too full
as it is to write the whole article.

So, any takers? :)

Just had a quick look - it is quite impressive, I really didn't think there
was anything this concrete yet.

I can probably get started this weekend, although I'd prefer to pose a few
questions to Sebastian (Trueg) and/or Laura in which case it might take a bit
longer, but maybe I can get it witten up on various plane/train journeys next
week.

Cool :) No hurry though, it's an in-depth article, not necessarily tied to any
specific date. There's the Semantic Desktop sprint next week, by the way.

Nice. Meanwhile I'll publish a mandriva release announcement. Will mention
this upcoming article just to make sure there is due pressure ;-) Kiddin' of
course, if you need help, ping me. Nepomuk is something I find very
interesting and I've spoken with sebastian and laura many times.
