Have found a bug in REXML that copies the xmlns definition into the
closing tag for the root element (which isn't valid XML). The irony
is that REXML can't consume the XML it produces.

hack around this without REXML. Maybe Builder can do the job. I'm
probably going to work up a blog post on Ruby's sketchy XML
support...need something like Castor or JAXB for sure, and it just
doesn't exist. Actually, it probably does exist - hidden in some SOAP
utility like xsd2ruby.rb. :)
