XUL groupbox border 1.9.1.3

I recently upgraded from XULRunner 1.9.0.10 to 1.9.1.3.
I had lot of groupboxes with border to set to 0px. But in 1.9.1.3, the border is always seen. Even though it is set to 0px.
This is how i set border to 0px.

<groupbox style="border:0px;">
<caption>
Some Cap
</caption>
.. Some more tags..
</groupbox>

I tried lot of other things. Like setting border-top/bottom/left/right to zero, setting border-style to none.

Any ideas why this is not working?

Memory allocation for XUl Elements

Hi All,

I am using XUL browser for my application and i would like to know what and all memory (Occupied) allocated by each and every Xul element. Here iam mentioning some of the Xul components which iam using in my application , vbox,hbox,textbox,groupbox,label, tabpanels,browser,button,popupset,menupopup,menuitem,menubar,menutabbox,tabs,tab,.. and their respective attributes .

so Here i want know , are they get garbage collected automatically once their use ? if not how to make sure they are killed and no more in use after their usage.

any help in this regard is unforgettable.

Sending events to XUL

Hello,

I am currently working on a project which involves grabbing pieces of Javascript from a web page in a XUL browser. I have been asked to find a way to control XUL from another application. Primarily, we need to be able to send events to XUL (such as mouse events etc), and we need to be able to get output from XUL as well (for example, the javascript in a page).

Does anyone have any ideas about how I might go about this?

I saw a while ago that mozilla added support for xremote:

http://www.mozilla.org/unix/remote.html

However, this seems far from complete, and it doesn't look like anyone's updated it for a while.

XUL Splitter problem

Hi from Novosibirsk(Siberia)!

I have a problem with splitter. I created a splitter and a flexible button (on the left side). When i move the splitter to the left, the button is resized. That`s great! But when I make my button not flexible (flex="0") and try move the splitter to the left again, sudden things happen. Splitter moves, and the button is drawn above the splitter, crossing it over. But I want the button to be hidden partially. For instance, by half, when i move the splitter to the middle of it.

Could you please help me to find the solution?

Behaviour or clearSelection?

I have some code in a tree like this:

<tree id="tree" onselect="showSelection();">

where the showSelection() function populates some input fields with content from the tree. I also have a 'clear fields' button which calls the tree.view.selection.clearSelection() method, before resetting the input field values.

It all seems to work ok, except that clearSelection appears to trigger the onselect event on the tree, so after clicking the 'clear fields' button I see content from the tree appear and disappear (albeit only briefly).

While this isn't a major issue I would prefer that it not do this - has anyone else seen this behaviour or know of a workaround?

I'm working on OS X 10.5.5 using XULrunner 1.9 (not tried on windows to see if it's just the mac version yet).

Security manager

Hello!

I've recently been playing with XUL and gecko, and have hit a small stumbling block, namely understanding the security manager. I've been unable to find documentation on this, anyone care to point me in the right direction? I've hit "Security manager vetoed action" exception a few times from privileged code, when trying to override native methods/properties. Perhaps that's just not possible? I wanted to call __defineSetter__('href',..) on window.location but couldn't delete the property first as required. Then separately attempting to delete browser.contentWindow.open raises the exception, although in this case you can override it but that doesn't appear to do anything...

I have the same behavior on FF3 on ubuntu. So it's not MAC-only
behavior. However, I can hide it on FF3 when run firefox with -chrome
switch.

window.open Dialog shows location bar

No matter what I try to do, when I open a dialog window using :

window.open(file,name,"dialog,location=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,width="+width+",height="+height);

... the windows always open with a location bar. I see it in Firefox 3 on my Mac but not Firefox 2.0 on Ubuntu. I am running Web developer, NoScript and Firebug add-ons. If anyone knows what the hell I am doing wrong please beat me thoroughly with the answer. I am in the middle of trying to develop integration XUL into my existing open source LAMP framework so it can deliver web page and web apps.

Does XUL support inheritence?

To be honest, i know next to nothing about XUL, other than it is a GUI markup language for rich clients.

I am a Java Swing developer, so I have the full power of an OO language behind me. I'd like to list a couple of scenarios.

a) I am building a custom dialog for a client. For all the dialogs used in the app, I want to have OK and Cancel buttons right aligned in a blue panel at the bottom of the screen. At the top I want something else, like a banner showing the company logo (it could be anything really).

Now in Swing,I can create a super abstract panel which contains all this, and I can define an abstract method, say, generate content, where I lay out my dialog specific components. Can XUL support this type of inheritence? As I understand, it is a static XML tree-like representation of the GUI. Can it deal with inhertence?

b) scenario 2. Polymorphism. I have a certain type A of textfield, and a certain type B of textfield. Both implementations override a validate() method differently. After user enters text, program then iteratea through the textfields calling the validate method. Can XUL do this?

c) I have a pretty sophisticated table. When a user changes something in the first column, the second column cell dircetly to the left becomes a date picker. If I change it to something else, then it becomes a drop down combo, or a textfield, or some kind of custom rendered label/graphic. Can XUL do this?

Just wondering how sophisticated/framework this XUL framework is.

I want to display resizeable standalone xul window. There are 2 ways,

But whenever i insert the following code into my js file referenced by the toolbar(instead of the popup code), and install the toolbar and press the button that executes this event nothing happens, any ideas what's going wrong? or what i could try?? i can't see what i'm doing wrong

Toolbar to change background colour of web pages

I'd like to create a toolbar for FireFox consisting of one button to change the background colour of the currently viewed webpage.

At present I have a button "Background Colour", when I click on it I have set up a popup message to say "Code for Changing Background Colour goes here".

Ideally I'd like to use a colorpicker for the user to select their colour choice, and then the selected colour be applied as the background colour of the webpage.

To change the background colour of a page would it simply be a case of placing a css sheet over the top of the currently viewed page?

And if so any ideas on how i do this?

Alternative data binding strategies for XUL?

Hi all,

I have been looking at XUL on and off for over a year. From my understanding it seems that data transfer and binding is done solely via RDF. I keep hoping that an alternative to rdf for data transfer/binding will be introduced, even if its straight xml.

I have no desire to learn RDF especially since it looks like a technology that never took off. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this?

To get the innerHTML of iframe inside the currently loaded page in the xul window element use:
document.getElementById("browser").contentDocument.getElementById('iframe_id_here').contentDocument.documentElement.innerHTML
