master build - help remove hacks

Thanks to Rene and Tor we now have master that builds ( and even
installs ) I also made some changes to get the build over the final
hurdle, there are some gross hacks in the following

REMINDER: Release of ooo-build 3.1.1-beta2 from master (branching)

Hi,

I would like to release ooo-build master on Tuesday, August 04, at about
16:00pm UTC.

It will be 3.1.1-beta2 and most likely the last beta release. I will create
ooo-build-3-1-1 branch at the same time. Only safe and well tested fixes will
be accepted into the branch.

Let me know if you still need to do any important and bigger change for
OOo-3.1.1.

Hi,

enjoy your hackweek. I expect that you have committed all wanted features
already the last week ;-)

I would like to release ooo-build master on Thursday, July 23, at about
16:00pm UTC.

It is 3.1.1-beta1 release and feature freeze.

IMPORTANT: Please, commit only save and tested fixes from now. Please, commit
new features only into experimental sections.

Let me know if you still need to do any important huge change for OOo-3.1.1.

Opening documents with URL requires credentials

Hi all,

I've a problem that wasn't present with Go-OOo 3.0.1.

I'm working with the Oracle Document Portal Server on which are stored
documents.

When Go-OOo 3.1 tries to open a document with an URL like

http://oracleportal.foo.it/document.odt

it presents an authentication dialog.
The previous Go-OOo version opens the doc without asking any credential
like MS Word or Acrobat Reader does.

This is very annoying and I wonder to know if there are some
configuration to setup in order to avoid authentication.

Kendy, this looks like the OSL_PIPE* stuff was in /tmp. But it still
does not start. Any idea how to debug what happens? Is it possible that
oosplash crashes at certain point of time?

/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin
or

/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice

I get exactly the same error and backtrace when I start it with "soffice.bin".
It works here when I start it with "soffice".

It is strange that the openSUSE build works also with "soffice.bin".
Anyway, "soffice" is always the preferred way. The java stuff does not work
otherwise, ...

Ok, do the following thing:

Go to your/opt/openoffice.org/ure/lib as root:

cd /opt/openoffice.org/ure/lib

and rename the libstdc++.so.6 and libgcc_s,so.1

mv libgcc_s.so.1 backlibgcc_s.so.1

It should start now.

Enrico, could you plese send us strace log? It would help us to locate to root
of the problem.

See http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:OOo#How_to_get_strace_log for some hints how
to get it. The instructions are for the openSUSE package. You need to
use "/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice" instead of "ooffice" for the Go-oo
build.

Ok. I attach the output.

BTW: We have one similar bug report, see
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=510752. The other user was able to
start Go-oo as root. Strange but...

I have the same problem using both root and my normal account.

Openoffice 3.1 and Debian Lenny

Dear Go-oo team,

Yesterday, we installed OpenOffice 3.1 Version 9399 from
http://go-oo.mirrorbrain.org/stable/linux-i586/3.1/ on debian Lenny
(using alien to convert the rpm-Packages into deb-Packages).

However, we detected one problem: apparently, OO3.1 uses its own
libcairo.so.2 - library, which depends on a newer version of
libpixman-1-0 than installed in Lenny (Lenny uses Version 0.10.0-2).
This produces the error-message

/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: symbol lookup
error: /opt/openoffice.org3/program/../basis-link/program/libcairo.so.2:
undefined symbol: pixman_region32_init

and results in a crash of OpenOffice.

We succeded to solve the problem on our machines by updating
libpixman-1-0 to the version used in Debian Squeeze (Version 0.14.0-1).
After, everything works as expected.

Now, I don't know whether to consider this a bug in openoffice or in the
go-oo - compiled packages or not? However, as I expect every user of
Debian Lenny trying to install OpenOffice 3.1 from go-oo.org will having
the same problem, its should be documentet somewhere? (Maybe it is
already, and I just did not found it;-))

some possible mixup with upstream/RH/GoOo packages on the same system.

My OOffice history:
in principle was OpenOffice 2.4 coming from RH packages,
after, I removed OpenOffice 2.4 and using the GoOo repository I installed the 3.0 version that works fine,
after that, during a "yum update" I saw that the 3.1 version was available, so I removed the 3.0 installation and I installed the 3.1
with the problem described. I removed and reinstalled more time 3.1 version with the same result.

I don't know if could be an useful information, but installing the 3.1 version of the original OpenOffice I haven't the problem.

What I really would really need to see is the output of this command:

rpm -qa | grep -e ooobasis -e openoffice

So that I can work with some useful information. I contend that it is
some possible mixup with upstream/RH/GoOo packages on the same system.

Hi Malte,

they generally are, but tend to appear one to two feature releases
later in vanilla OOo (no, I'm not deliberately holding them back).

The Go-oo Linux edition provides extra 3D transitions, anti-aliasing
also in the slideshow, GStreamer integration for video and audio,
much improved usability (auto-shrinking of outline text while you
type; typewriter rulers that actually relate to the indentation,
smarter keyboard accessibility, rewinding of effects & a
configurable 'scribble mode' in the slideshow, and more), and
numerous fixes to the PowerPoint import filters.

We tried to summarize the differences few days ago, see the draft below. Is

The Go-oo Edition of OpenOffice.org contains enhancements and bug fixes that
are not included in the Sun or community builds. These include:

General

Enhanced Support for Microsoft Office File Formats, including the export of
those for Microsoft Office 2007, MS-Works import, WordPerfect Graphics
import, Lotus Word Pro import, SVG import, improved EMF rendering, better
mono integration.

Calc

Merge & center enhancement, and cell merging on multiple sheets. Copy & paste
of multiple ranges. Natural sorting option in cell range sorting. Row limit
has been increased to 1 million rows (1048576 rows). Performance enhancement
in print preview mode. HTML import language option. Jump on formula
references via ctrl-[ and ctrl-]. And much, much more.

Data Pilots

Data Pilots are interoperable with MS Pivot Tables(TM). Go-oo OO.o
substantially improves the Data Pilot feature with the following
enhancements:

* edit source range after creation.
* assign custom field names, field members names, subtotal and grand total
names.
* popup window for quick editing of show/hide field members.
* defaults to a new sheet for new tables.

Excel VBA Macro Interoperability

The Go-oo Edition of OpenOffice.org eases the migration of many macros from
Microsoft Excel. Although not all macros can be successfully migrated, this
interoperability offers more than the standard edition.

The Go-oo Edition has support for:

* All VBA Modules types are imported e.g. Document, Normal, Class and
Userform modules.
* Userforms, supported by both the VBA wrapper api and enhanced import
filter that adds support for controls that have associated embeded
images, and data aware controls like ListBoxes and RadioButtons that can
have their state associated with one or more cells.
* Event handlers for the toolbox controls, for instance
CommandButton1_Click, CommandButton1_MouseMove etc.
* Workbook events such as Workbook_Open and Worksheet_SelectionChanged.
* VBA basic syntax, many additional fixes that help imported VBA macros to
run and compile are included.

Excel compatibility

The Go-oo Edition supports multiple formula syntax for cell and cell range
addresses and formula expressions: Calc A1 - the traditional format
(default), Excel A1, and Excel R1C1. Text numbers and dates are interpreted
as numbers or dates when appropriate, similar to how Excel interprets text as
numbers or dates. Our version allows toggling of cell grid lines per sheet.

Also supports: user-defined tab colors, PHONETIC function support for Japanese
phonetic guides, showing/hiding data from hidden rows in charts, correct
rendering of charts with mixed chart types, Excel export encryption, document
and sheet protection password & limited sheet protection options, external
range names, and many details of the Calc user interface have been tweaked to
make migration from Excel to OpenOffice.org easier.

Writer

The Go-oo Edition provides a powerful fields support, including an in-place
editing. The Writer navigator allows a tree view of the document structure,
giving a slicker navigation experience. Also there are added line and
characters units for the ruler bars, improved printing of fonts, and improved
HTML import and export.

Impress

The Go-oo Linux edition provides extra 3D transitions, GStreamer integration,
much more fixes and enhancemetns.

I have a document that converts incorrectly.

Under 3.0.1, it was fine. Would open correctly, and save correctly to .odt
and .doc format. When .doc was opened by MSWord, it retained formatting.

However, under 3.1, it opens correctly, but cannot save correctly in .doc
format for Word to use again. The saved .odt and .doc files open correctly
with OO3.1. But as stated, the .doc fails to open correctly in Word.

Just wondering whether you don't have installed a mix of RHEL and GoOo
packages. Maybe you uninstall all openoffice.org* packages and pull the
GoOo ones.

Did you try to run /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice, instead of the
soffice.bin?
