I am having some trouble with my generator. The throttle control module seems to be bouncing around alot, especially at low loads(econ mode). You can take the back cover off and watch the throttle bouncing back and forth, never seems to level out. Took the carb and jets apart and cleaned them last night, everything is good with them.

Has anyone had this problem or got any suggestions? Or should I just order a new throttle control and try it?

Engine will run at full load, still hunts for throttle setting, but not like it does in econ mode. Econ mode it bounces so much that i will actually loose power or dim lights. Turing off satellite & tv. Please help.

Hey guys,
My ef 1000 was kicking my butt too. Only mine was leaking fuel from the bowl overflow on the side of carb. I found out that the bowl was overfilling so the carb was getting flooded with gas. it was so rich it wouldn't run.
Mine sat for like 4 years before i bought it off a guy, so it gummed up a bit.

If i used carb cleaner i could get it to start, but then it would die, and pour fuel out of the carb.

my problem was the needle in the carburetor bowl. it was clean and everything, but the end that pushes on the float has a little nipple that is spring loaded. mine was stuck down so the float couldn't put enough pressure on the needle to seat it right. It should sick out about and 1/8 of an inch, and push down until it is flush with the body of the needle. I sprayed carb cleaner on it and taped it on the workbench until it moved enough to grab with tweezers, then worked it until it moved free. Put it back together and it worked great.

I am having problems with my vent tube though. It dumps tons of gas on the ground when the switch is only in the "stop" position. If you guys know anything could you tell me? Thanks!

Hey,
I just fixed my 1999 EF1000 generator, and everything is working as it should...except the vent tube. When i put the switch to "stop", the engine shuts off like it should, however the vent tube starts draining gas, and it doesn't stop. I filled a 20oz bottle with what was coming out. If i put the switch back on "run" (with engine off) the tube stops leaking.

The tube was run down to the bottom of the unit when i got it, i am assuming that is correct routing. if i pick the tube up so that it is higher than the gas tank it wont leak anymore (obviously) when put in "stop".

Any ideas? Thanks!

I purchased and installed one of these remote start kits in my ef3000iSEB today, install went without a hitch and it works perfectly now. I have owned the generator for approx five years now and love it. I have a couple of questions however that I can't seem to answer myself.

to operate the keyless remote, you first turn the key to the "on" position, then can use remote start to operate the generator on and off.

first, the manual states to start the generator without a load, nothing plugged into it. now that I have a remote start can I leave my RV plugged into the generator all weekend and use the key fob to start and stop the generator or do I have to go disconnect the RV start generator, reconnect RV each time?

second, does the battery drain on the generator if you leave the key set to "on" position for say a weekend? example, run the generator in the evening then when its lights out time, use the key fob to turn off the generator and go to sleep. the key on the generator would be left in the "on" position. then in the morning use the remote start again to start the generator. the key would be left on all night in this case, would it drain the little battery inside the generator?

thanks in advance for any and all help!!!
with THIS unit everything acts as it should EXCEPT it kills the engine on overload. im worried i could be damaging the unit as its puzzling why it kills the engine.

The manual does say they do continue to run after an overload but my engine cuts out...Mine increases in revs during the overload but it cuts out a few seconds after....

Your oil switch is blinking on and off, check the wiring.... on mine, the main AC wire from the generator part of the motor broke at the connector-plug, was a easy fix... Also, the ignitian wire is too short and sometimes loose....and also it would pay to remove the cover and check all the wires and connectors and grounds were sound.... Also on mine the throttle body connector doesnt clip in convincingly although ive had no issue with it...at least you know the oil-sender unit is working and dont have to split the case and crank for that....

Hello
just purchased a used yamaha EF 1000is generator. its in fantasic shape. so its mint. however its doing something it shouldnt. when it reaches an overload because i have too many things on it. its little over light blinks some and it dies. the engine stops. according to the previous one i had and in the handbook it is to continue to run however there is no a.c. output until the engine is stopped and restarted.
what id like to know is this.
 1. whats doing this? how is it able to kill the engine? plunty of oil not does the oil light come on or flicker. its like an off switch being thrown.
 2. will using this generator and at times close to overload cause further damage? what componant could be replaced to make this function as the manf. desires?

I have a EF600, fuel is leaking from the side of the fuel valve below
the fuel tank. There is a small hole in the side of the housing - fuel
is leaking from there when the valve is turned on.

I have dis-assembled the fuel valve, cleaned and re-assembled, it is
still leaking.

Is this a common problem ?
I suspect that the round rubber fuel valve inside the unit may be
leaking, is this the most likely cause of the fuel leak ?

Dont pull the carby apart, just remove it then remove the bowl. Dont remove the throttle unit, unplug it instead.
Then soak it in kero.... place the carby in the soaking disk with the float partially open and pour kero down the fuel line. This way the jet will definetly get some kero....after the first time i soaked mine it i was amazed at how much air was passing in comparison to the day before. It's evident my jet was partially blocked for a long time, this made it run a bit flaky.... now it has a beautiful smooth even run, with no hunting....eventually it will start to hunt, when it starts to hunt, i clean the bowl out... if it continues to hunt i replace the outer carby seal...

hi halsabob,

I've been exactly where you are, out in the field and wondering how to rig a can of StartYaBastrd to the carby so i can at least get a quick email out...

i am going to presume you are working with a new spark-plug...when my plug goes the centre electrode tends to eat away and requires gapping to restart it....

When you removed the carby bowl and blew down the fuel line did you bounce the float up and down noticing the differant rate of air passing through? ... my genny is much smaller than yours but air passes easily when the float is down... i do not and would not use a compressor either...

My carby used to grease up from using the wrong oil with the oil blowing up through the anti-pollution valve that runs through the airfilter.... i would often be cleaning the whole filter assembly.

Dont pull the carby apart, just remove it and the bowl. After digging down to it (dont remove the throttle unit, unplug it instead), there should only be two bolts to get it off. Then soak it in kero.... place the carby in the soaking disk with the float partially open and pour kero down the fuel line. This way the jet will definetly get some kero....the first time i soaked mine it i was amazed at how much air was passing in comparison to the day before. It's evident my jet was partially blocked for a long time, this made it run a bit flaky.... now it has a beautiful smooth even run, with no hunting....when it hunts i clean the bowl out... if it continues to hunt i replace the outer carby seal...

I also thought i would mention this. It has only happened to me once but it can happen.... the push-rod driving the overhead valve became unseated, sympton was, backfiring through the carby... initially i thought it was because of the ether i was using to try to start it, but when it didnt puff anything out the exhaust i figured it was the exhaust valve ... i must state this happened to me once after i didnt reassemble it properly... since then it droppped from a table and rolled down a hill but the rod stayed intact...

as usual I must mention i take no responsibility for any of the advice i've given....but i hope it helps

This generator sat for a year with gas in it. It will not start. It has gas from the tank to the float bowl. It will run with a shot of ether for a few seconds. I cleaned and blew the carb as best I could in the field (no compressor). I have not taken the carb apart other than the float bowl. I am assuming the carb is the problem. Do I need to take it apart as much as possible and soak it overnight? Is there a carb diagram available?

When i originally wrote the above post my generator was using a lot of oil and blowing a lot of smoke...

When i pulled it down the exhaust chamber and muffler was just about fully clogged with carbon. After cleaning and reassembly it started using a varying amount of oil but still too much...

I then cleaned the fuel system, changed the oil to a single grade 30 and ran it flat out for four hours...

Nowadays it virtually doesnt use an oil, doesnt blow smoke and runs sweet and smooth...

drain the carby bowl, pry off the fuel-line at the tank, blow down the fuel-line. A very good volume of air should pass very easily at a good rate...
if you have to force your cheeks at all then there is a blockage in the jet...sometimes a quick fix is to then remove the bowl, fill the fuel line with kero and let it run through the float jet. Once the kero flows, bounce the float up and down while blowing and sucking on the fuel line. Otherwise, pull off the carby, its bowl, soak it all in kero overnight and repeat the blow test in the morning...
Sometimes, by using the wrong oil, oil can get into the carby through the air-filter/anti-polution.
I've cleaned the carb jets, spark plug, and spark arrestor and there were no signs of any problems, although I noticed that the dealer did not replace the bolt in the air cleaner case from previous work. I had the cylinder head replaced in the Spring of this year under warranty because the valves would not stay in adjustment. I had less than 15 hours on it since the replacement before this weekend. Any ideas? I'm guessing it's either the speed limiter assembly or the TCI unit. Does anyone have any troubleshooting techniques? Thanks in advance for any help.

I think I need to lean it out a little. The manual says the main jet is a #101.3 I have found a #98.8 main jet. Is that 1 step or several steps leaner? Do I need to change or adjust any thing else?
The New Yamaha Inverter Generators

The New Yamaha Inverter Generators are next-generation portable generators featuring a microcomputer-controlled inverter system. The result of this new generating system is a model that offers a high-level balance of the features of light weight, compactness and high-quality electric current with specification including waveform distortion ratio of less than 2.5%. This could not have been achieved by just trying to improve the conventional alternator type generator. Features like outstanding serviceability, good starting performance and lots of convenient design touches throughout, the Inverter Generators are model that clearly set a new standard. Another thing that makes these new models different is its ability to meet a wide range of power needs, for everything from construction equipment that demands high voltage to sensitive microcomputer-fitted appliances.

1. Lightest weight in class
The new Yamaha Inverter Generators adopt a multipolar alternator known for an excellent ratio of power output to weight. Other features like an electrical governor and reduction of the number of parts help them achieve the lightest weight in class. Enjoy the big convenience of single-person portability.

2. Easy to use compact design

The use of size-reducing design technologies and the adoption of a multipolar alternator have made Inverter Generators the most compact in each classes.

3. Supplies high quality electricity!

An inverter system is adopted. The use of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) makes possible the supply of high quality electricity. That means the Inverter Generators can be used without worry to run products containing built-in microcomputers or microcomputer-controlled electric tools.

4. Outstanding fuel economy!
The 'Economy Control' system regulates the rpm of the engine in relation to the amount of electricity that needs to be generated and achieves outstanding fuel economy. This complements the characteristics of the OHV engine with its good combustion efficiency.

5. Silent Design!
The 'Economy Control' system gives this model quieter running because it reduces engine rpm to fit actual electricity needs. Also, the large capacity air cleaner reduces intake noise, and the new-design lightweight muffler reduces exhaust noise. The improved design of the moving parts of the valve assembly, etc., also minimize mechanical noise.

6. Environment friendly design
The highly efficient combustion achieved in the engine give this model clean exhaust.

7. Outstanding operability and reliability
Inverter Generators are also equipped with an output indicator lamp, output overload indicator lamp, oil warning lamp and an electrical breaker. This means you can use this generator to run products with built-in microcomputers or microcomputer-controlled power tools without worry.
