Bubba40,
Welcome to the Forum, glad to have ya. The hydro takes regular 10W30 motor oil, but if your changing it, you might want to replace with a synthetic or other more durable oil. There are a couple other posts regarding the hydro oil, and a nice rebuild post on the 6700. Read on...
When you get a chance....let's see some pics of it!!!

From fellow member Meofuse---
"There is a thread on this forum that I started early last summer with pictures included. I rebuilt the hydro on my YT6700 because of lack of maintenance by the previous owner. There is no drain plug in the hydro to drain the old oil but there are two ways to drain it if you are somewhat mechanical inclined. The first and easiest way would be to remove the filler cup that attaches to the unit and using a small syringe and small tube try to suck out the oil. You will find that this doesn't work very well and will not get all the gunk and dirt accumlated on the inside bottom. The second way is to raise the tractor so you can access the hydro. If you remove the rear tire on the side where you pull the lift lever for hydro neutral you can see where the lift lever actuates a small button on the hydro. This button actually opens a passage that allows the oil to flow freely in the unit to prevent damage if you need to move the tractor without the engine running. Be that as it may, the button is held in place by a hex nut. Loosen and remove the hex nut around the button... be careful there is a small spring in the unit, do not lose it! The oil will drain out. If you can, flush the unit with kerosene or something to remove the sediment, blow the unit out with an airhose and replace the spring/button nut/lever. The book calls for regular 10W/30 motor oil but I put a straight 40 weight in, it improves performance on the older unit and adds better wear protection."
Rattosh51

I just walked out to my garage to verify my first thought after reading your post..I turned the key on my yt3600 and yt6800 w/o starting it,flipped the pto switch on/off a few times and I heard it clicking on/off. Whether or not the clicking actually engages/disengages the pto,,I dont know. I'm thinking you might have batt/elec problems.
Rattosh51 is right on about the carb. When you get the carb cleaned, install an inline fuel filter if there isnt already.Your carb will thank you for it.
I bought my yt3600 from a guy who said "It just died while I was mowing" 2 yrs prior..So I bought it for $100 hoping it was something simple n cheap to get it running again. Brought it home dead, trip to walmart for a new battery, ahhhh turns over but no spark, yay. A day later the engine is out on my workbench taken apart with a broken flywheel magnet.Screw came loose.Must have been why it died, pieces of magnet were everywhere inside. Had to order a new flywheel $380 from local yamaha dealr; Couldnt just order the lil magnet thats are held on the flywheel with 2 lil screws that prolly cost about $20 :)...Took about a month and $700 in parts(flywheel, deck wheels, air filter oil, rear tires, belts) before my yt3600 ran like new again. sorry for the long story, I'm crossing my fingers that your flywheel is ok.Goodluck

Hello-
I have a problem where my YT3600 quit running while the PTO was engaged...now the engine wont turn over or even click. I want to know if i can disconnect the PTO manually some how? I think the engine is on a strain with the cutter activated and cant start like that.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. I am overdue for a carb cleaning, would that make a difference related to the power issue?

thanks

I found mine after pulling the rear deck and a good cleaning. Actually I took my best guess by scoping out every nut head and bolt, got lucky the first try. It was an Allen bolt facing toward the rear and it was right near the bottom left hand corner if I remember right.

There is a thread on this forum that I started early last summer with pictures included. The book calls for regular 10W/30 motor oil but I put a straight 40 weight in, it improves performance on the older unit and adds better wear protection. The units can be repaired with some t-l-c and luck finding parts.
I am just a shade tree mech and if I can do it just about anyone can. If you need I can take some pictures of the area where you need to work.
Hope this helps,
Cal

I think your float may need adjustment, or replacement. Sounds like it may be getting stuck open, thereby letting too much gas in to the carb. When you take your carb off again, make sure to take the bowl off and clean in there, and check to make sure the float can move up and down easily. To check it for leaks, you'd have to see if you can hear any gas sloshing around inside when you move it around. Don't use acid to clean the float, as it may destroy it, just some carb cleaner will do. The black smoke is an indication of too much gas...
Rattosh51

My oil smelled like gas so I took the carb off and it was all dirty and gummed up. I cleaned the carb real good with acid and when I was done I blew into the fuel line with the carb upside down to make sure the needle closed and it did. All seemed well but after the first cut it smelled like gas again. Also, if I let it idle for a few minutes it is a bit harder to start and huffs a bit of black smoke for the first few seconds its running. Does anyone have any suggestions? My next guess would be to disassemble the carb again and try cleaning it one more time.
Thanks
